Default Flames Development Camp Roster

Does anyone know which players are participating in the various groups? Group A goes tomorrow from 9am to 12:30pm and Group B goes from 11am to 2pm....something doesn't quite jive there, maybe there's a scrimmage or something halfway through?

Anyways, I can't find anything on the various groups at all, if anyone can help out that would be great.

The NE Sportsplex does have two sheets of ice IIRC, so they may be going on different rinks in the same building.

Got back from the dome, Backlund and Greentree were by far the best forwards out of group B, Backlund had a bunch of sniped goals and his passing wasn't too bad.

I really didn't notice Ryder out there, he was ok but wasn't making me notice him every time like Backlund and Greentree. Also, Irving was much better than Sprat but that isn't surprising.

Just got back from the Camp, I guess I ended up seeing Group B which had the following players:

G
Leland Irving
James Spratt

D
Keith Aulie
Alexander Deilert
Matt Pelech
Ryan Wilson

F
Mikael Backlund
Lance Bouma
Chris Bruton
Jordan Fulton
Kyle Greentree
Aaron Marvin
Dan Ryder
J.D Watt

Here are a few of the notes I scribbled down. If anyone has any questions about certain players, feel free to ask. It was fairly difficult differentiating a lot of the players because today was all skills, there was no scrimmage.

Leland Irving - Looked quick, agile. Made an unreal save that most people ended up missing I think. Looked good out there.

James Spratt - Did much better today than yesterday. Has a good glove hand, made a great save in practice. Both guys looked good, Irving looked more poised though.

Matt Pelech - Good agility for a big guy, you can tell he's filled out. Good crisp passes, very powerful stride. Was the best d-men out of the group. Reminds me of Cory Sarich but a better skater.

Keith Aulie - Big kid, needs to fill out. Decent enough skater, will improve puck skills as he gets older. OK agility.

Wilson - He doesn't look as awkward at skating as everybody says he did. Not as agile as the other defensemen in the group, but got the job done.

Deilert - Obviously a puck-moving d-man, he has good agility and a very good skating technique. Needs to improve power. You can tell he played at a lower level b/c he is not as aware out there as a guy like Pelech who played in the AHL last year. Needs to work on his shot. Good puck skills though, increasing strength should help this kid. Good fundamentals.

Marvin - Needs to improve his skating, not great agility. Did not look out of place but needs more work.

Bruton - I kept on noticing him, good skater, good shot. Puckhandling abilities OK.

Kyle Greentree - Strong kid, most mature on the ice. Good shot, and a good skater. Reminds me of David Moss but looks sturdier on the ice, he seems to have more power to his stride.

Dan Ryder - Pure sniper, made some great shots. Didn't have the intensity I would hope for the entire time but the kid knows how to find the back of the net.

Brett Sutter - Most average kid on the ice. Looked undersized from a strength point of view, not a great shot.

Jordan Fulton - Fit in well on the ice, good mobility.

Lance Bouma - The kid fit in well, especially for a 1990 born player. Looked better than Sutter IMO. Needs more upper body strength to improve shot, good skating technique.

J.D Watt - Big strong kid, won't be a liability on the ice, has a shot at the QC this year as a 4th liner.

Mikael Backlund - I had fairly high expectations coming into the practice and man did the kid live up to them. By far the most talented player on the ice. Great shot, great skater. The thing that really impressed me was his 2nd and 3rd efforts if the goalies stopped him. He is a great talent, extremely talented with the puck.

As an aside, Jamie Mclennan was out on the ice with the boys, thought that was kinda cool to see.

Just got back from watching group A.

Would love to give you a thorough report but the whole session was skating technique which was interesting, but brutal for evaluation.

So as skaters ...

Gord Baldwin - massive, but a little rusty on the finesse skating drills. Awkward as hell around the pylons, especially on one leg.

John Negrin - skating didn't hold him back at all. Looked fine, good heads up player. Bigger than I thought.

Dustin Boyd - hilarious to see him out there with the kids. Had a swagger to him, lead all the drills, was with the skating coach at the front. Leadership role.

Hugo Carpentier - program says he's 6'2" and Boyd is 6' ... sure.

Kris Chucko - impressed for the most part. Was with Boyd the whole time. Speed looked distant and pylon work good until the end where they had to look off the puck (looking bac). Started mishandling it.

Nick Larson - dude needs to improve his skating big time.

Greg Nemisz - better technique than Larson, but you can tell his leg strength is as advertized ... wasting a lot of energy on cross overs doing nothing.

Mitch Wahl - much like Larson and Nemisz ... needs work in agility and strength.

The only thing to remember with Greentree is he is almost 4 years older than all the other prospects who are out on the ice. So while I thought he did look strong and a solid kid, he should be considering he's 25 years of age.

Great stuff guys. Thanks for the write ups. Looking forward to drills/scrimmages that will give us a better idea of their skills and NHL readiness.

Exactly ...

some of the skating drills today had them doing one legged turns through pylongs forwards and backwards, inside leg and outside leg ... you could see the "you want me to do what?" look on a lot of faces.

Yup, understood. I still like to hear that he looks better than the kids (even though he should by all rights anyways).
