The new water jugs safeway uses are cheap and recyclable now (just like a pop bottle) are those ones fine? I just check mine and it doesn't have any sort of triangle on it.

We got our recall notice at work today. Apparently, Pepsi and Coke do not have BPA's in their bottles. Gerber and Playtex are recalling their hard clear bottles, except for the drop-in liner kind. If you own them already, simply don't heat the bottle. They are saying that yes there are BPA's in the bottle liner kind, but the bottle itself doesn't touch the fluid in the liner. Anything baby products made by Nestle are BPA free.

Is re-using a Dasani water bottle for an extended period of time going to leave me susceptible to BPA poisoning? Or is my roommate just yanking my chain...

As far as I've heard there was no issue with BPA being in Dasani type plastic water bottles, but a different chemical called DEHA. According to wikipedia DEHA isn't used in those water bottles anymore, they use PET.
On Cancer.org:
"These emails are apparently based on a student’s college thesis. In fact, DEHA is not inherent in the plastic used to make these bottles, and even if it was the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says DEHA "cannot reasonably be anticipated to cause cancer, teratogenic effects, immunotoxicity, neurotoxicity, gene mutations, liver, kidney, reproductive, or developmental toxicity or other serious or irreversible chronic health effects." Meanwhile, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), says diethylhexyl adipate "is not classifiable as to its carcinogenicity to humans." "

Well you will pass on at some point...and when that happens we can all blame it on the water bottle, or the cellphone, or climate change or Frebreeze, the computer, the sun, big macs...

That's true. However the liner in Sigg bottles are supposedly ok...but I'll probably find out next week that they're actually not.
"SIGG bottles are easy to clean and have a safe organic liner that won’t leak dangerous toxins into your beverage! All that and they are beautiful too!"
More info here.
