See, this is why its so hard to take all this new health info seriously.

Some health nut who runs 10Km every day is going to end up getting killed by the bottle he drinks his water out of, while my lazy ass is going to outlive him because I sit around and drink beer out of perfectly safe glass bottles all day.

Not to mention the possibility he just collapses of heart failure just because. Hard to collapse when you're already on your ass.

So I purchased a plastic bottle from Walmart a few months ago to have at the office. It has the recycling symbol on the bottom but no number inside. Am I right in assuming it likely has BPA with some extra harmful stuff mixed in since it was dirt cheap.

Under the recycling symbol does it have letters? The one you need to look out for is PC, I think. The waterbottle I have is PE. And if it's a squishy bottle, you probably don't need to worry, it's just the hard plastic ones that you have to worry about.

I also heard on the National last night that the major concern is water that is stored for over twenty four hours or heated (microwaved or boiled) in hard plastic bottles. Leaching (sp?) doesn't occur if you just put water in and use it for a work-out.

Plastics May Emit Toxins

A new report from the National Toxicology Program has raised concerns about bisphenol, a chemical found in baby bottles and sport water bottles that may be linked to breast cancer, prostate cancer, and early-onset puberty. What do you think?
Louise Banner,
Systems Analyst
"Well I guess that pink sports bottle they gave me for running the breast cancer 5K was some sort of sick joke."

Ken Wooley,
Golf Pro
"Really? I'd better stop feeding my daughter until I can get her baby pictures taken."

Dean Logan,
Bridge Inspector
"Please don't blame the bottles. Everyone knows that people who get prostate cancer have no one to blame but themselves."

I know while in class, one of the professors was talking about how nalgene bottles leaked a substance similar to estrogen, which seems to be causing and increase in estrogen levels into the water but none of them mentioned anything that required this sort of action. But again, I did get rid of my nalgene and am now using a cheap one I bought at walmart. *Shrug*

Hmmm, the water bottle I'm using right now has the 7 in the recycling symbol. I wonder if Starbucks will do a recall?

Any idea where these can be purchased in Calgary.

I bought 2 from Walmart a couple of years ago but cannot find them anywhere anyymore. Best damn water bottles (Nalgene) on the face of the planet.

I honestly dont care if some chemical might cause cancer.

Thanks.

Superstore, last I checked, they had a bunch. I was in the Northland Walmart a month ago and saw that they still had a bunch left too.

No letters. Just the symbol. I'm sure it's bad. It's from Walmart after all. And the lip is very sharp too.

Hmm, that's pretty dubious labelling. Well, a lil extra estrogen never hurt no one...The more the better right?

From biology class, there are a lot of chemicals that mimick estrogen out there and our found in many products. Scienctists have found that the average age of sexual maturity in North American girls has fallen compared to the rest of the world, and the increase in estrogen like chemicals may be a factor

If you're trying to find alternatives or find out what contains BPA for baby stuff, this link might be helpful to you. Most of my friends are going to glass or stainless steel bottles (Kleen Kanteen) for their kids' drinks.

I gave up my Nalgene a long time ago and now only drink from antique pewter mugs.

They keep the water cold and I need a new digital camera for my trip. Any advice?

I habitually use a lead-lined mead horn. I should be good right?

Sounds fine to me Locke. As long as when you start feeling ill you take four mercury pills. In fact this combination is sure to promote eternal life, it certainly won't drive you insane or cause your liver to fail, poison you or cause brain death.
