No no... it's like a spicy chicken but with jalapeno jack cheese and some sort of sauce. I can't remember the name of the one you're talking about but that's not the Wild Mountain.

I was reading something similar in Men's Health...most sit-down restaurants are going to be worse for you because the portion sizes are so much bigger than what you'd get at a fast food restaurant. Add in your 'tizers, and unlimited pop, and the calories really add up quickly.

ESM = No
Spicy Baconator = Yes

Wendy's has a history of getting you hooked on something and then ripping it from you just when you start to get the shakes without it.

For instance the smoky bacon cheeseburger, it was the single best hamburger ever made. They we're always for a limited time, and I'd eat them every chance I could get. Then all of a sudden one day they stop their "limited time" and it never reappears. I'm still having withdrawals to this day

THose SBCB's were the bomb! Ate a lot of those before I rewrote my rules on fast food.

I did have a baconator or two. If you want a satisfying lump of grease, it's the way to go! I remember thinking it had to have close to 1000 calories though and I guess I was close. But it's that 24 grams of Sat Fat that will kill ya! I try not to eat fast food any more often than once a month. (And FF burger places even less) Been thinking about the new spicy baconator but have not tried it yet.

It you want a good burger with a little less grease, try Tommy's Burger/Bar on MacLeod. It's actually right by Burger Inn. It's a sit down place though, even though they specialize in burgers.

I had the blue cheese and pepper bacon burger. Best burger I have had in a very long time!

I remember years ago burger king had the sourdough whopper. I'm not sure if it was the drinking or the open late drive through, but I recall eatting nothing but those for a weekend when I was 18-19

We take a crunchy, all-beef taco, smother it in nacho cheese, lettuce, tomato and our special southwestern sauce. Then we wrap it in a soft, flour tortilla with a layer of refried beans in-between.

Jason: Sweet!

Announcer: Then we wrap that in a savory corn tortilla with a middle layer of Monterey Jack cheese.

Andy: Awesome!

Announcer: And it gets even awesomer, when we take a deep-fried gordita shell, smear on a little of our special "guacamolito" sauce and wrap that around the outside.

Bill: [ trying to hold this mighty taco ] This is pretty big..

Announcer: But it gets even bigger! Because we bake it in a corn husk filled with pico de gallo, then then wrap that in an authentic Parisian crepe, filled with egg, gruyere merguez sausage and Portobello mushroom.

Jason: [ getting restless ] Can I eat in now?

Announcer: Sure. But not before we take the whole thing and wrap that in a Chicago style deep dish meat lovers pizza!

Andy: Pizza? Now that's what I call a taco!

Announcer: Well, it's not a Taco Town taco until we roll it up in a blueberry pancake, dip it in batter and deep-fry it until it's golden brown. Then we serve it in all commemorative tote bag filled with spicy vegetarian chili. It's 15 great tastes all rolled into one.

Its unreal how unhealthy those chain restaurants are. I used to work at Earls and one day we got the nutritional information for our food and it was unreal.

The typical extra value meal at McDonalds w/ a diet soda has about 800 calories. The typical meal at Earls was twice that. We had one dessert that had close to 2000 calories (the caromel explosion) and a side of ranch sauce had like 400 or 500 calories in it....

Edit: they have the nutritional info on their website.

Penne Alfredo w/out meat: 1521 Calories

A side of fries 776 calories (twice that of most fast food places)

Warm feta and Spinach dip (a starter) 1447

Bento Box (also a starter and sounds like a healthy alternative): 1325 Calories

Its too bad they don't have the caramel explosion brownie thing on there anymore. That one would have taken the cake.

^^^ Wow, that info is definitely good to know. Knew it wouldn't be the healthiest but didn't think there would be that many more cals than fast food.

But the biggest question isn't necessarily calories. It's fat grams, especially bad fats. IS that at the same percentages or worse as the fast food?

Calories are just a measure of energy, and alone are a poor judge of how good a food is for you. Maybe how big a portion is, but that's about it.

Not saying those restaurant foods won't have some bad fat content, but that would be the info I would be most interested and concerned about.

I have to totally disagree with this post. The whole idea of "fat" making you fat was disproven in the late 80s.

As someone who spent all last summer on a body builders regime limited their body fat as much as possible, I can tell you that fat is not that bad for you. What is bad is total calorie count.

Its pretty simple, if you eat more calories than you burn you put on weight. Doesn't matter too much in what form the calories come in.

High protein foods can be good for weight loss (hence atkins), because they tend to be low in calories (a lean piece of fish/chicken is low in calories) and if you are trying to put on muscle you need the extra protein.

Well, a quick glance at the Earl's website shows that:

Penne Alfredo: 1521 calories, 107.6 g fat, 65 g saturated fat, 2360 mg sodium
Fries: 776 calories, 41.8 g fat, 8.7 g saturated fat, 741 mg sodium
Feta and spinach dip: 1447 calories, 70 g fat, 28 g saturated fat, 2500 mg sodium
Bento box: 1325 calories, 59 g fat, 7.7 g saturated fat, 5584 mg sodium
Earls 1/2 lb Burger with Cheddar & Bacon: 980 calories, 68.1 g fat, 27.6 g saturated fat, 1105 mg sodium

Man, 58 grams of protein in the Baconator. If it wasn't for all the other crap, I would certainly try one.

Thing that upsets me most about Wendys is they have to be the BIGGEST false advertisers when it comes to product presentation. All of their commercials make their burgers look incredible but when you acutally get one, it is a shadow of the tv version and looks like it was run over by a semi.

Yes, I know they are all like that but I figure Wendys is the farthest away from the product they show in the commercials.

I agree with CC, Harvey's is better.

Burger Inn and Boogies burgers are even better.
That might be the diet.

After clamping down on junk food for a while.....its pretty hard to eat it again without feeling grossed out.

If you are really worried about your calorie and fat intake you practically can't eat out. Even if you try to eat healthy at a family restaurant for instances a 6oz steak with a baked potatoe (plain no butter or other crap), the vegatbles are always cooked in butter and covered in salt. You can go with a starter salad with the dressing on the side instead of the veggies. But it makes eating out not worth the cost or the effort.

Gotta disagree with this too.

Bad fat is bad for you....sure, but it won't necessarily make you 'fat.'

Eating more calories than your body can burn WILL make you fat.

Thats why you only eat out a couple times a month.

Or hit the local deli, instead of ESM or Earls.

The whole 'eating out' thing is why so many people are obese. Personally I think resturants should be required to show on their menus how many calories are in each dish.

I don't eat out. A few weeks ago I was away on business for a few days and had no choice. Especially when your in all day meetings that are catered. I tried my best, but it wasn't the same as making meals at home. If I'm in a pinch I'll get a 6" chicken breast on whole wheat loaded with vegetables with no sauce or cheese at subway. But you can't eat that every meal.

It's bad for your heart and arteries and your cholesterol. I didn't really say anything about becoming fat, just that eating fat is bad for you.

Plus eating a bunch of fat doesn't really do much for your body, so you still crave food later and eat more, hence more calories...

EDIT: If you could eat a burger that had 800 calories and 30 grams of fat, and one that had 900 calories and 8 grams of fat, I think I know which one would be better for you. Both portions are still probably too big, but I'd take the second one for sure.

Obesity kills waaaaayyyy more people than smoking. I always love how people are so concerned with a little bit of second hand smoke, but will then pack extremely high calorie meals into their mouths. Not that I am supporting smoking, I just find it ironic.

Anyone else seen the South Park episode w/ Reiner?

If cigarette companies have to give warnings, so should distributors of high calorie foods. Mcdonalds already does, chains like Earls, Milestones, etc.. should be forced to follow suit.
