They beat the Browns in week 3 and the Dolphins in week 4. Both AFC.

They beat the Dolphins as well. I remember that game because I picked the Dolphins thinking the Raiders had no chance winning on the road. Cullpepper runs in a couple TD's points at his knee, the rest is history. So the Raiders had a better Conferance record than the Chiefs.

Very true. Thomas had a good first year with the Browns.

He had an incredible year. Second in Rookie of the Year voting behind Peterson. Made the Pro-Bowl as a rookie OT. WOW!

Yeah, but I think I still agree with you on Long. My favorite lineman in the draft is Gosder Cherilus out of Boston College. The guy came in at 6'7" 315 pounds at the Senior Bowl yesterday.

The Kansas City Star was all Gaga over USC's LT Sam Baker yesterday. According to the Star, Baker dominated opponents at the Senior Bowl practice like Willie Roaf.

He's a beast and from what Ive seen, read and heard, a hard worker. As long as he doesnt turn out like Winston Justice.
A good second/third round pick could be Mike Pollack (C) from ASU. Big boy, 3 year starter and had a great senior year.
Antoine Carson (CB) - Arizona - might sneak into the first round. He's a top corner (Candidate for the Lott and Thorpe awards), big body (6'0 185), and likes to play physical and support the run defense.
I've heard that it's going to be a relatively deep draft this year. A few top flight prospects (Long, Long, McFadden, Dorsey), light on talent at QB (Ryan, Woodson, Brohm, Brennan), but 20-40 are very similar talent-wise. Good news for teams drafting in the early 2nd round.

The Eagles are still quite high on Justice. Aside from the Giants game this year he has been pretty solid. The reason he's not a full-time starter is because the Eagles have two of the best tackles in the league in William (Tra) Thomas and Jon Runyan still holding down their jobs. Reid brought Justice in with a second round pick and he was never intended to start until after one of Thomas or Runyan retires.

No no... I meant slipping in the draft. There was lots of talk about him going in the top 1/2 of the first round and he slipped to the first part of the second round. But he was abused in the Giants game.... badly.

I doubt he will have problems finding a suitable replacement.

SI's first mock draft has the Dolphins selecting LSU DT Glenn Dorsey. Although they do also mention that the Phins may trade this pick away, wihch would probably be a good idea seeing as they need all the help they can get.

Well the Red Skins axe both of the co-ordinators and still haven't found a head coach. Al Saunders probably wasn't the greatest fit there with all the crazy schemes he's trying to run all the time. But Williams being fired as the DC is a big surprise as his defences were among the best in the NFL. Williams won't be out of work for very long and I think Saunders likely will latch on somewhere else too. Although given how much they were being paid by the Skins to be co-ordinators they might be able to sit out the year if they have to forfeit their last years salary's if they work elsewhere.
Dan Snyder is like Al Davis....except he never has won a championship, and he's far too young to have seemingly lost his mind. You have to love overbearing owners who continue to make weird descisions.

Saunders is a top quality offensive coordinator, but he needs his kind of guys to do it - lest we forget he managed some of the best in the league offenses for KC. The schemes are complex and it takes a different kind of QB (Trent Green) to run that offense. Campbell was a young guy and maybe he wasn't the right kind of person to fit into the system.

Yeah, Saunders needs to have the right players to really make his schemes work. Not neccessarily a lot of talent in the skill positions, but a QB who's pretty sharp and a talented offensive line. In KC he had a veteran QB in Green who had a lot of years of reading playbooks to work with as well as a tremendous offensive line. For a team who really only had one talented receiver in Gonzalez and really their running backs weren't that much better than anyone elses yet they still had one of the leagues top 5 offences for about 4 straight years. Trent Green was throwing for 4000 yards a season with Eddie Kennison as his top wide receiver and I think the Chiefs used to be at or near the top of the league in 15+ yard throws largely because their scheme was unpredictable not because their receivers were that great.
I think a team who has a good offensive line and a QB like say a Kurt Warner would do very well with a co-ordinator like Al Saunders running the offence.

Jim Zorn worked magic when he was the OC at Utah State. Seriously. It's a shame he hasn't had a chance to expand his role in Seattle. Watch Holmgren leave after this year and Zorn move back as OC to Jim Mora Jr.

Maybe the Skins fired their co-ordinators to send a message to possible coaching candidates that the job is yours and you can select your own staff. A coach should be able to assemble his own staff.

As opposed to the Dallas model?

Yeah, but they already hired new co-ordinators....Although, maybe they really have hired the new coach but are staying mum on the issue.
