I admittedly know absolutely nothing about how assault charges are classified or how they are presented, but "attempts to cause serious bodily injury or causes injury with extreme indifference" sounds bad. Like not just a single punch that broke a jaw. It mentions harassment later as well.

To the layperson, that sounds like he beat the tar out of a guy. Again, that's just speculation on my part.

Half of the attendees were probably using fake ids. I'd be curious to know how old the victim in this case is, for example. Also laughing at the bracelet system. OK lol.

Punching someone is stupid but let's not pretend like everyone in the state of Pennsylvannia doesn't already know that kids under 21 get served alcohol at penn state bars.

This doesn't look good, but we need the full story in order to judge. My guess is some of those charges get dismissed. Maybe he works a plea deal for the lowest charge.

Someone is going to pick him up for a lot lower draft pick

Its still a pretty bad look for him coupled with the assaulting another person. Hopefully he wasnt dumb enough to punch someone for asking him to leave the premises

I have traveled to over 50 US college towns to meet with University Administrations about similar incidents, and did so while living in Ann Arbor. But ok!

- Ultimately, freshmen in US college are more similar to a grade 10 here in terms of alcohol awareness and history of use. Often this leads to a higher frequency of violence, crime, and alcohol poisoning than in Canada.

This is all on Gavin being an idiot, but I bet this could derail NCAA efforts to attract draft eligible canadian players.

If everyone does it, it’s ok!?

Crazy how you can get felony charges for breaking a guys jaw, but raping/torturing/murdering kids gets you elected as president.

And, while hockey players aren't as much the celebrities there that they are in Canada, he has to be one of the more well known players in that bar.

How did he think the bar wouldn't know the projected #1 NHL draft pick isn't old enough to drink?

Got into a bar fight? Seems like he put a stronger chokehold on 1st overall to me.

Didn't Brett Sutter do something similar that lead to him bring traded to Carolina?

It's a tough line to walk. He is pretty young and young people do dumb stuff. It shows a ton of immaturity and a need for emotional growth, which is unsurprising of an 18 year old. Definitely a red flag though.

It shouldn't be, but in the U.S. it is. The logic was impeccably stupid: to prevent 16-year-olds from drinking with a fake ID, you have to make it illegal for 20-year-olds to drink with a real ID. They could have enforced the law just the way it was, but that wouldn't let the politicians give themselves credit for doing something.

It was, of course, a federal idea. Congress withheld highway funding from any state that refused to raise the drinking age to 21, so in the end they all caved.

His draft stock skyrockets as teams find out that he can also play an enforcer role! Gordie Howe hatties galore.

Well this draft just got a lot more interesting....

One thing we shouldn't forget here is the Flames often-stated priority for "character" when they draft.
