I agree with February.
January has the tail end of the holidays (although barely) but those days are great.
January and February being the coldest months means February becomes a grind where you just get absolutely sick of the dark, windy -20C stretches that roll through.
March has the return of sunlight with the time change, and the most snow. Sunny snow days are just awesome.
My runner up is April. Sounds like spring right? Not even close. Snain, dirty, brown landscape and nothing good but optimism that May is coming.
June is the best. Blossoms make it look and smell amazing everywhere, green, daylight, the smell of fresh rain. Just awesome.

The trend so far seems to be those of us on the coast hate November. If you’re on the prairies it’s the first few months of the new year. Makes sense.

March. Just when you think it is time for spring, you get hit with another month of brutal cold. There are no holidays. Winter exhaustion at its peak.
February has Family Day which might not be the best holiday, but it is better than a work day.
January has holidays for the first part of the month. You are also rested after the Christmas break.
April sees an Easter Holliday and real hope for summer.

Ya, but the garden starts putting out, and that counts for a lot. Fruits and berries in season as well. Sitting out on the deck under the shade of the apple tree on my lounger, reading, snacking on fresh fruits and veg, no F1 to worry about losing nice weather to watching...too hot is a legit gripe, but the days are trending shorter so the nights tend to be slightly better.

First post in the thread and the correct answer, immediately. March sucks. You've gone through winter, or so you think, and then you're hit with ongoing cold and snow to really drag things out. There's nothing redeeming and nothing to look forward to.
Hooray, the tax deadline is next month. In another 8 weeks, I can play golf and enjoy the nice weather. In 2.5 months, all the good fishing opens. It's the worst, and there is really no comparable.

Some months are bigger, some months are a little smaller, but February, why are you so small? Is it because the other months didn’t like you and wouldn’t share with you? I don’t blame them, you are cold and gloomy and your best friends are bill collectors. Your only redeeming quality is when it is the 28th we know we are done with you and get to hang out with one of the regular sized months.

This.
February sucks. March sucks. April sucks. I basically end up skipping these months in my office.

I feel Feb is the worst month. It the month I spend the most time chipping ice because of the inevitable 50 degree temperature swings from -40 to +10...

Rivals January as coldest month of the year and most people just wait for the days to go by into March and the beginning of the thaw to warmer weather. It's 28 days because even the ancients hated the month and wanted to get it over with.
January sucks but at you at least start off on the right foot after Christmas and New Years festivities and the most depressing part of January is knowing that the next month is February.

November, while boring is usually pretty mild winter weather, no long weekends but Remembrance Day which may or may not be observed (thank you elite military snipers for your service). A pretty unremarkable month.
February is brutally cold, family day is the lamest long weekend of the year, darkness going to and coming home from work, overall it’s a dumpster of a month. The best part about February in Calgary is leaving Calgary on vacation.
February sucks

This year we got smart and booked 2 trips to FL and 1 trip to Playa in Jan and Feb. I find the best way to deal with the dark and depressing weeks of Canadian winter is to get the hell out for a while.

March has flickers of warmth and super changeable weather and you really feel spring coming and then.....
April is the second worst month. I swear when I moved here in 1993, April we'd start seeing leaves and flowers but that's almost always May now. It makes sense since October seems much warmer than it used to be. It's like the weather shifted a month in the last 32 years. April somehow seems colder than March, though I am sure it isn't.
But yeah, February is the worst because of the tease, but also usually the worst cold snap too.
November also sucks, but there is much more going on in the sports world so much more easily distracted.

I will say for Calgary, April while not being the worst overall month, is the least aesthetically pleasing month of the year. Everything is brown and grey. Ice banks thawing into slush, mud, with brown grass peeking out. Roads covered with gravel and sand makes for dusty and generally unpleasant outdoor scenery around the city.

I'd probably say September. You'd think fall would start right? You'd be wrong, instead it's as hot as if not worse than August
