Huska really knows how to coach the most out of a mid line up. We were the better team, had more control, better chances, but are missing 1-2 elite, star forwards to win games like that (we'll still win some of them).
Sadly you don't get elite star forwards by barely making the playoffs.

- lots of effort
- decent defense and goaltending
- can’t score a goal to save their lives
Says a lot about your vets when Gridin and Parekh are on for the last minute.
Should have had 6 or 7 goals
Fun team to watch. Hard not to cheer for them. But I don’t think anything will change until they get 2 more skilled forwards that can score. Huberdeau is one. Hopefully they can turn Andersson into another.
Kadri needs someone to play with. He’s playing 1 on 3 right now.
Players like Sharangovich should be sent down. Not Gridin. He and Parekh have massive amounts of poise. You can’t coach that stuff.

Great effort, I thought they generated well, and as everyone points out, poor finish.
That's ok. The real muscle of this team is young, and learning. Coronato is there already (and will improve more). I would be shocked if Zary doesn't take another couple of steps forward. Gridin and Parekh are just starting out. Wolf will be improving as well. Even Bahl is still young and will improve. Klapka has is improving before our eyes, and who knows when he will finally plateau. I am adamant that Honzek will be an important piece of the equation moving forward.
There is a tonne to like about this team. I suspect they bottom out this year simply because the talent that is breaking through is still young, they need to get a bit faster, a bit stronger, and a bit more experienced. I can't see this team bottoming-out for 4 season. I really think they touch down for 1-2 seasons, and then start taking off again. There is just too many good pieces in the pipeline already, and too many pieces coming through already.
I think what we have seen so far is just the evidence of that - kids need time to adjust, the team needs more of these talented kids to break through, and the team probably needs a couple of high-end picks to also be difference makers and help everyone slot better. Slotting is important.
Who knows, however. Maybe this team gets pushed by these youngsters, and the wins start coming this season. I don't think so, but I wouldn't cross it off the list of possibilities this season. There is a serious amount of good young talent popping now, with much more to come. I think they deserved to win, but St. Louis has the more experience players and a better core right now. I don't think they are a great team by any stretch, but their core is more of the prime age, and they will find ways to win games like this.
Snuggard is an interesting pick. He will be competing for the Calder this year. Playing with top players on the team, and on the #1 PP unit - I imagine his stats get padded this season. Going to be quite the race for the Calder this year - best race in many years I bet. Lots of candidates (and the Flames have 2 at least! 3 if Honzek sticks and starts finding the back of the net!).
This is what I call a very good loss. Flames looked great, they were competitive, and this is the right kind of environment for these young kids to really grow in. If the Flames exceed expectations and start winning, that's great too. If they don't, it may be better in the long run, as frustrating as it may be to have that kind of losing season or two. I expect them to, but this doesn't mean I will enjoy it.
Let's see what the next game brings. The kids have looked great. Parekh I thought looked really good out there for most of the game, specifically. Honzek was so unlucky. Coronato might get 40 this year by the looks of it. Gridin I bet doesn't look back. Losses suck, but watching these kids is quite fun!

Why wasnt Huberdeau on the bench with the scratches? Lineup with Zary centering the 4th line hampered the offense. They tried to make 4 balanced lines and it didnt pay off, I feel like that was a coaching mistake.
I do like the idea of Zary at center, maybe he wont get hurt so often if hes playing in middle of the ice more /s
The game was entertaining and I thought they were going to be up by 3 or 4 with how many good quality chances. Despite the result, this was a good game. The best part was the 2:00 pm start. I can’t say enough about how great the start time was. Have lunch at home, head to the Dome, enjoy a hockey game, home for 5:30, start cooking dinner, still have the evening to do whatever. It is the opposite of an 8:00 pm start, which is the absolute worst.

Honzek is an NHLer. Parekh got better as the game went on. They need to keep playing him. Gridin is already poised and playing like a vet. Pretty nice to have 3 rookies in the lineup.

I loved what I saw from Honzek, Gridin, Parekh, Farabee, Frost and Coronato tonight.
The Flames were coming in waves, and simply didn't get the bounces. If they play like they did today they'll make the playoffs.
I was at the Dome and I was not entertained at all. The effort was there most of the time, I suppose, but that's it. Power play was C-level - difficulties getting into the zone and getting set up. Honzek was invisible. Parekh looked meh - small and quite underwhelming after all the hype leading to today's game. Klapka is trying hard but not much to show for it so far. Frost, Zary and Gridin look promising, I guess, but why is Zary playing with Lomberg??? And we have no finishing talent, it seems. Like no bona fide goal scorers. This is the worst and the most worrisome part of it for me. We're up for a gruelling season, I think...
