Neither Calgary or Vancouver are "world class" cities. Their biggest selling points are leaving the city to do something in nature.
Online, people in Vancouver always refer to Vancouver as "world class" to justify the cost of living. It's not....there's F all to do here. Examples of world class cities: Paris, NYC, London, Tokyo, maybe San Fran or LA....not Calgary or Vancouver. Sure, Calgary and Vancouver are great places to live, but there are plenty of places that are, if you don't care about what the city actually has to offer as a city.

agreed. A bit of apathy setting in, but in some ways it does make just watching the games more enjoyable. No big expectations.
I was kind of excited that we might actually bottom out and start getting some of our own superstars and have that perennial contender one day, but it doesn't look like that's how it will go.
This team is what it is, and I don't really expect it to change, but I've accepted it. It's still fun to cheer.

I see this as a higher power, looking at it from a more optimstic approach.
Sure, losing Bennett and Chucky sucked, the circumstances for both not ideal. BUT! it all makes sense now:
Chucky and Bennet TWO YEARS in a row cause misery for the Oilers, winning the cup back to back. The Oiler window with McDrai continues cupless for one more year, the decline is in the future; a third consecutive return to the SCF not likely, they lose again this time that is ging to hurt them, big time.
With regards to how the Flames are making out in all this:
We get Lombo (not through trade, but there is the florida connection). The guy is the heart and soul of the character of the new Conroy/Huska era Flames
We get Hubby, yes, first season a disaster but it was end of Sutter era, I don't read into it too much. Rough contract in any case, but that is what it is. He is morphing into a Huska/Conroy era Flame in the right way, can only hope that continues in 2025-26.
We get Weegs, the likely future captain and one of the catalysts for getting a new arena here.
So it's not all doom and gloom. Panthers do this right and finish the final in 4 or 5 games and no doom and gloom after all.

Exactly, i get it, it sucks. There are people dying, sick, starving, being evicted. Also, people working 2-3 jobs to make ends meet, wars in the world. If this is the worst problem we have, this is a good life.

Great point. If Tkachuk/Bennett don't get traded, the Oilers already have a cup.
Maybe the Panthers beat up on the Oil enough that McDavid loses his cool and demands out. The Oilers get stuck with an overpaid Draisaitl and no prospects. There is balance in the force.

I don’t know I just can’t bring myself to care all that much.
Sure I hate the Oilers but in a fun way. Them winning the Stanley Cup won’t change my life one iota.
Their GM will still be a piece of ####. Corey Perry will still be a disgusting human being. Evander Kane will still be a scumbag. Draisaitl will still be pissy. And most importantly their city will still be the ####### of Canada.
So whatever, let them have their stupid ####ing Stanley Cup. It won’t make ours any less sweeter when we win. And we will always be a better class of people.

Pretty much this for me. I don't want the Oilers to win as it bothers me on a "I hate seeing bad people get rewarded." But I've also accepted that "that's not fair" is not an excuse that works in the real world and that bad people often DO get rewarded.
IF they get a Cup with this team (I'm holding out hope with the Panthers) it will be forever tainted in my eyes by how low they had to go to get it.

Meh. I’d probably have a different reaction when I was younger to the current state of affairs. I don’t live in Calgary anymore though so I don’t have to see any of their fans riding around. Even then, sports is entertainment and I was entertained by the Flames this year. I will look forward to watching next year when the season rolls around even if the Oilers win the cup. They can win the next 3 and it would have zero impact on my ability to enjoy or be optimistic about the Flames. It’s sports, #### doesnt make sense sometimes. Teams fortunes are tied to lottery balls and teenagers. It’s how she goes

To me McDavid winning a cup is inevitable and the Oilers have been doing their damnedest to sabotage his chances. I hope he still walks after a crushing finals loss

Yo Debbie Downers, Both Parekh and Wolf MAY TURN OUT to be generational players / superstars... Hang in there a few more years!

Panthers are a big and MEAN team. If Bob shows up, they can dummy the Oilers. Just like Carolina, which was a better team than Vegas or Dallas.

I'll be pleased if the pigs get to within a few minutes of winning a Cup only to have it taken away again. That's real pain.
And then the fine people of Edmonton can rejoin the rest of Canadian hockey team fans in misery and anticipation of next season.

I immigrate to this wonderful city when I was 12, and this city accepted me, the junior high school I went to accepted me, I've lived in this wonderful city for more than 50 years. Even if hell freezes over, I still will not cheer for the Oilers.

Been to all of your fancy cities, and would still prefer to live in Calgary or Vancouver based on my enjoying to get out in nature. Maybe it's just me, but I don't find fashion terribly exciting.

Him walking after no Cups in Edmonton, and then winning in his 1st year with a new team, just to highlight how terrible the Oilers organization is would be the perfect scenario for me.
