As MarchHare says, there's likely a non-zero sum of right-wing voters who are going to write or already wrote-in Donald Trump on their ballots, and I want to see how many potential votes the CPC lost because of it.

Nope.
There is no provision for a write in candidate in a Canadian Federal election.
It would just be a spoilt ballot.

Personally I think everybody just brings something different of value, obviously understanding how governments and economies work is a huge advantage, but if the person is smart enough even if they don't have that skillset I still believe they can do a good job by bringing in experts and leaning on/learning from them.

The only people I think make truly horrible leaders are the ones who are so arrogant as to think they already have all the answers to everything and are trying to make decisions on macroeconomic policy based on random bits of nonsense they and their buddies chatted about, some kind of ideology disconnected to fact or their gut.

Basically if I see someone who starts ranting about road design or civic planning, how the people doing that work all their lives are idiots and you can tell they don't have a clue what they are talking about, that's the guy that should never be a leader.

And it feels like in this day and age, 9/10 that is the guy who runs

Usually anyone who is humble enough to delegate decisions on topics they have no expertise in to qualified experts and independent research.

Sadly, those types aren't generally "charismatic" enough to be considered for high office.

It'll be interesting to see if the CPC loses, do they double down and go even further right, or do they finally come to a realization that, if they want to govern, they're going to have to come back closer to the middle and can those whacko extreme right people. It does the party no good to be deep blue in Alberta catering to some of these deplorables but lose out on the rest of of Canada.

My bet is they double down. It's going to be so annoying hearing all vocal minority talk about separation and joining the US after this.

I am of two minds. I am hoping for Carney and a Liberal majority government, but I also wish we had some sweeping changes at the administerial level and cabinets of the Federal government.

PP is a waste of skin. It's really too bad there isn't an opposition party of any worth in this Country.

I voted for them last time (when they ran a candidate in my riding). They've had some really strong platforms over the years too:

• Repeal the law of gravity
• Ending crime by abolishing all laws
• Level the Rockies so that Calgarians can have ocean views
• Providing new energy sources for Canadians by channeling the hot air coming out of Ottawa

Voted last weekend here in the GTA with my daughter. It was very, very busy according to the election officials. My sense (and I may be in an echo chamber) is the Liberals will do very well in the vote rich GTA. Social conservatism doesn't play well here generally. The Conservatives will pick up some rural seats but the GTA’s feeling very strongly Liberal. Carney is very popular here as far as I can tell. Again, I could just be in an echo chamber.

According to my university student daughter all of her friends have already voted which was great to hear.
