He’s suddenly behind a lot of players, so it doesn’t seem fair to hold a roster spot for him to watch as the 13th forward. Doesn’t help the team or his development.
Honzek
Klapka
Coronato
Schwindt (more versatile as a centre)

Yep.
Was a likeable, but poor on-ice pick at the time. I remember Tree talking about how Pelletier said “you pick me because I’m a player you win a Stanley cup with”…but what skillset does this player actually have that helps a team on the ice?
…again, about the same as Kevin Rooney, which is to say pretty much nothing.
Pelletier has been passed on the depth chart by a lot of players, and they’re not elite prospects passing him either. He’s just not a standout.

Why would someone offer that when they know he’s hitting waivers the next day?

Somewhat ruthless call, if it's confirmed. I like his personality but I don't think he'll ever be an effective NHLer.

I just can’t see him getting claimed . Which teams need a bottom 6 winger that may not be as good as what they have on the farm?

Is this a serious question? If a team is interested in a player, they may assume that someone with waiver priority over them is interested in the same player and trade a late pick to guarantee getting him...

Pelts has said publicly this was a scenario he had to prepare for as well. So it's not unsurprising to him. Can't remember if it was a preseason interview or ep.1 of the chase. But I heard him say it.

He almost seems like a guy that could use a fresh start. Might actually be best for him to get claimed

Preseason interview. He said he knew he could get waived but that he wanted to remain in the organization.
That tells me he saw it coming.

He clearly likes his teammates and it is reciprocal. I don't get any bad vibes from Pelts at all, this is purely based on his lack of quality play.

Yes it is.
The other reason would be no one thinks he’s very good. So they don’t want to give up anything to get him.
Which is probably the reality.

Honestly I can see Pelts getting claimed. We will find out tomorrow.
Lots of basement dwelling team could use some sparkplug.
I also think it was Lomberg that stole Pelts role in the grands scheme of things.

On one hand I think it's terrible that they wouldn't give him a long leash in a clearly rebuilding season. But, it's the Flames we're talking about and they probably think they're going to compete when they shouldn't be.
On the other hand, Pelletier is a small, non-physical player that is supposed to score and hasn't shown much at the NHL level in that regard. And the point that he's starting his 6th season since being drafted, to me, means he's a long shot to do much at the highest level.

Waiver claims are harder for teams to make than what many fans think. It's not getting a player for nothing. There's other costs involved that have value to teams.
You need to absorb cap and contract plus make room which usually means having to cut loose your own child. Plus you pay a fee to do it. In reality it's an easier deal to do after a guy clears because you can swap a less useful AHL guy plus the pick for a player with more perceived upside.

Stupid decision. No reason to waive him, just send down one of the guys eligible to not be claimed and give Pelts another 10 games. It’s just bad asset management

There’s definitely interest, I could see him being claimed.
That said, unfortunately for Jacob he’s been passed up by a number of prospects and his injuries derailed his season last year. If Jacob wanted to be a flame he would have taken the 2 way deal from Calgary but he wanted the NHL minutes and money so you can’t blame him there. again his pre-season play just wasn’t enough, he needs at least a half season in the AHL.

That would make the Conman look a tad hypocritical though. If that's the logic behind the decision, I respect it.
There's always a chance Honzek is shown up by proper NHLers in games with something tangible on the line, and Pelts thrives in Chicago or perhaps California.

What if they have 100% decided he is really no good?
It’s been over 5 yrs

It’s not like other GMs have no clue what’s going on around the league. It had to be known that he was passed on the depth chart here and there wasn’t room for him on the big club anymore.
|
If you took the team to read posts from Royle9, who appears to have connections, you would see a post by royle saying they were getting offers for Pelletier. So my question to royle9 was why would they not take an offer instead of waiving him for nothing? If the offers were a 7th round pick and the org thinks the risk of waiving him and sneaking him through outweighs the value of a 7th round pick that’s one thing. But if indeed there were firm offers out there and they choose to waive him, that’s hard to stomach as a fan of a team that has a track record of losing assets for nothing and have been bitten in the a$$ as a result of poor asset management.

Two way contracts still go through waivers. That is irrelevant.
