Gridin for me. I haven’t seen much of anything from Pelletier that would suggest he’ll be an NHL player and he’s getting to that make or break age. I’m not going to write him off completely but his stock as fallen significantly for me.

I think what's happening here is the upside vote (Griden) is splitting with the most ready vote (Pelletier)

Pelletier for me lowered his ceiling this year because of lack of durability/injuries.

Love his enthusiasm and expect him to have regular duties on 3rd and 4th lines this season.

Did not stand out in Wranglers' post-season last year - a bit of a red flag.

Hoping for rebound and a Pospisil breakthrough-like season from him.

Too much upside for Gridin to not pick him at 6. The USHL coach interview says there is alot to be excited about!

If Pelletier stays healthy this season, all the questions go away. Unless he plays himself out of a spot, Im sure the Flames want him starting the season with the big club. He has to be waiver eligible this year too, no?

Based on his waiver situation, he is forced to be ready. It's kind of an artificial line. Unless he completely bombs at camp, they'll given him some runway this season. There is no real risk at this point because it's not a year where the playoffs are expected, and you want to give your 1st rounders all the chances before you write them off. I say he gets 30 or so to prove himself.

Of course, you never know, The Flames weren't afraid to put Valimaki on waivers, who in a way in a very similar to the situation Pelletier is in. I think Treliving was more in the mind set that they needed to maker the playoffs that year at any cost though. This year, we can afford to give prospects more rope.

I think if he went on waivers at the beginning of the season, there would be a decent chance he gets claimed, like Valimaki did or Rico Fata way back when. Just being a relatively young former 1st rounder, some team might take a flyer on him. Like another bottom feeder with nothing to risk. I wouldn't guarantee it, but I would put it at 50/50 at least.

If he plays 30 games and doesn't have much to show for it, he probably goes unclaimed.

Went with Gridin as the new shiny toy. Could have seen a fair case for Pelletier, Morin or Stromgren as well

Damn! Pretty near how i see it with minor changes. I would put lipinski and klapka one tier higher. I think both end up being good bottom six players.

Still going poirier. I think he has to show well at camp just too many guys nipping at his heels.

Just not sold on Pelletier being more than a tweener.

The waivers things got me thinking that it could be another way of looking at it.

If both Gridin and Pelletier were put on waivers, what are the chances that they would be picked up? For Gridin, I am sure it would be 100%. He wouldn't even make it past one team. Pelletier on the other hand, I don't think it's 100%, and he would likely at least make it past a few teams.

Therefore, can you justify giving Pelletier a higher value?

Just a thought experiment. I am not sure if that is a fair way of looking at it, but it kind of makes me think about how current value of prospects should be considered in how they are ranked.

I am honestly surprised that Basha isn't getting more traction here.

Pelletier is so good.

I'm baffled at people writing him off.

Recent 1st round picks usually get claimed unless they really have shown poorly. Pelletier just may have been injured, but he was outstanding in his first pro season I have him easily in my top 10 - probably in the 5-8 range.

If he is signed to a bad deal, then it is likely he won't get claimed, but as long as his contract is cheap (as it should be) then I can't imagine that he gets through waivers without someone picking him up. It just takes one injury, or one PTO that didn't quite work out.

If Pelletier was property of another team, I don't think I would trade Gridin, Basha, Morin, or Mews straight across for him.

I think Pelletier is a classic example of the fact that some players take longer to develop than others.

I know when he was drafted the comparisons were for Marchand. It took Marchand until D+4 to crack a roster spot. Pelletier is what D+5 this season?

Pelletier plays with the habits of an NHLer. There are certainly players on this list who are more skilled than he is, but I'm not sure anyone else has the little things figured out more than Pelts.

Thinking that's not close enough for a run off?

Pelletier wins?
