Yeah I'm not really sold on Holloway myself. Could be wrong.

Still, I do like Holloway.

That’s my concern too. If we weren’t in full tank mode it’d make more sense

100%
I've been saying this for a while.
Normally I don't think they're a great idea, because you reap what you sow. But it's the Oilers - we're already rivals, so #### em!

I get that a lot of people don't like Evander Kane but I fail to see where this guy isn't an everyday NHL player who can contribute. He was clearly hampered with a longer term injury and should be able to bounce back.

Yeahh I don't think their numbers are crunching at this point.....
Good luck sorting that out. Going to need cap favours from other teams before the season, and that will cost assets.

Sure. But at $5.125M?
He's a $3M player now (at best). So for a cap-strapped team like EDM, he is a liability that needs to be moved. And the only teams that would take him are teams that would do so as a cap dump. So the Oilers will either have to pay him $5.125M (which they can't), or trade him with a sweetener (which they are woefully short of), or buy him out.

Or ltir shenanigans. I believe they're already setting this up through the media. First it was sports hernia. Now they're saying hip issue. He'll be out until playoffs.

Probably, we already know the league doesn't do their own diligence on these things, the team just needs a doctor to say the player can't play. Not hard to do when you are the one paying the doctor.

If I am using that second round pick for an offer sheet, I would be using it for Lundell. I would love to force the Oilers to Overpay Holloway or Broberg, but Lundell fits way more of a need.
Holloway and Broberg to me fall in the 3rd round pick compensation, which unfortunately is tied up.

Even just signing him to a 3m AAV is a problem for the Oilers. Throw Kane on the LTIR and you still couldn’t fit Holloway’s contract (if I’m understanding their cap situation correctly, that is).

If Kane starts the year on LTIR they can exceed the cap by $5.125M. I think

Read, think some fanboy site how he turned down some big contact offer to be 2025 Stanley Cup champion, and to bask in the glory of st connor.

People are interpreting Dreger's tweet like he took a paycut.
"Henrique received higher offers, Oilers circled back and closed the deal".
To me that reads like the Oilers initial offer wasn't high enough, they upped their offer and closed the deal.
Either way, defence wins championships and the Oilers are built like my high school intramural hockey team (surprise, we lost).

The way the Oiler media and fans have celebrated signing a 35 year old 3rd liner and a buyout.
They picked us and left 500k on the table!!!!
