Good for him, hope he gets a good deal, hope the Flames get him in the end but they have lots of good D already.

As dumb as this sounds, I wonder how much of this is the player himself trying to figure out his value. Pretty unique situation heading into UFA. Maybe no other way to find out if you are leaving money on the table then testing the market. And depending on valuation, picking a location where you think you’ll set your self up for a better pay day next year if you don’t like what you find out and go 1 year and bet on yourself.

Amazingly, his NHL numbers are not as good as Valimaki's. And he is a year and a half older

If Kylington goes, we should just grab some 24 year old off waivers to fill his spot and see how that works

He is very replaceable, absolutely no sense in paying him big dollars or any term for that matter.

Absolutely. San Jose is guaranteed another lottery pick next year, they might be even worse! Anaheim will finish near the bottom. I don't foresee the Flames "beating" either team... The Oilers will be picking in the lottery again before the Flames lol.

Equivalent of the person from work that goes on leave, comes back to just to use up all the vacation days, then leaves for another job. All the best, good riddance.

Won’t be surprised when he tests free agency that he will be back. I get him wanting to get as much term as possible but I’m not sure it’s going to be out there for him.

He's 27, and the flames look like they're going to be straight up bad for the next 3-4 years at minimum; I can understand him wanting to explore other opportunities to play somewhere that is a little more primed for success in the near future.
I'm sure he recognizes that an NHL career is not guaranteed, and so he needs to make the most out of his time.

Without knowing what they have offered and what his market value is, hard to judge his loyalty.

Is he required to accept whatever is being offered?

Presumably leaves for another job when he’s offered way more money and security at his once in a lifetime opportunity.

Companies will always do what ‘s in their best interest in laying off/firing employees.

Employees need to and should look after their own best interests. Because the employers aren’t sitting around dreaming up ways to make you #1.

Damn, I didn't see this going this way.

That said, Kylington has earned this. If he finds another team more appealing and they want to pay him what he wants then so be it.

Kylington going to regret this I guarantee he doesn't get the interest he is expecting.

As much as I think the Flames did the right thing and treated him with respect and disagree with this line of thinking I totally think it's within the fans right to feel this way.

I wish him the best but understand why others don't and they probably have valid points.

I just don't think Kylington is as good as he thinks he is. He and his agent will be back after they get no interest on July 1st or low ball offers.

I have no problem with him checking the free agent market. Mu guess is he will circle bacl to the Flames as they would probably have the best offer.

His right to do as he pleases.

I don’t think losing Kylington meaningfully impacts this team. Absent a guy like Tanev on his wing, he’s a third pairing dman and I don’t think he has upside from there.
