He probably has no idea.
It's one of the more complex situations there has been. What do you think he would get on the market?
I literally have zero clue given all the factors.

I have no idea either. I guess out of 32 GMs who often do dumb things, someone could throw a pile of money at him like San Jose or Chicago - or at least a relative pile.
And since we don't know much about his mental health issues, maybe leaving Calgary is a good thing for him - not because of the team or because they treated him badly, but just because of the whole situation to begin with. I certainly don't begrudge him the right to choose, and I don't think he "owes" Calgary anything - he had a mental health issue and his employer helped him, as they should have.
There are a whole lot of what-ifs here, and we don't know (and will likely never know) all the details. And that's okay. Just I would have thought that if he is interested in coming back to Calgary, as he is to some degree since they were having talks, that it's strange that a team needing to reach the floor who can afford to overspend, can't meet what he's looking for. And I say that without knowing what he's looking for, of course.

Given his complex situation and the flames having the bargaining power, this is the only leverage he has. Flames have little incentive to raise their offer unless another team is interested. Wouldn't be surprised to see zadorov situation from a few years back.
Unless the flames are significantly low-balling him, I can't see this as any more than a price check. Given his situation and barely 3 mths worth of playing in the last 2 years, it would be dumb on his part to mess with a bunch of variables. He has familiarity, a place where he is going to get minutes and a fanbase/media with relatively low expectations.

I can't see a contract for Kylington being much different than the one Valimaki just signed.

Sounds like a fair benchmark to me.

He is a UFA so someone may spend a bit more for free asset
But yeah 2-3 yrs for 2-3M is what he is worth
He comes with lots of risk and is really a mediocre player at this point

From a purely on ice perspective, I’d be happy to have Kylington back. But I also think he’s among the most overrated player on the team by the fan base. I think there’s a lot of allure around what he could be, because the things he does well are the sexy parts of being a Dman.
But I definitely think he’s not a player you overpay (term or dollar) in the slightest. IMO he’s very high risk to remain a bottom pair Dman or someone who needs a Ranev play 2nd pair effectively. Let someone else overpay, especially given we aren’t hitting g our “window” any time soon.

2 years x $2 million.
Sounds about right. Maybe 3 years somewhere, but not likely much better cap hit.

I wonder, if he would like to go where Tanev ends up, and is waiting to see where that is.

Flames need to be as bad as Hawks, Sharks, and Ducks for next season if they are truly going for McKenna on the next draft. Burn it down!

You guys know with our draft luck even if we finish last we won't win the lottery...
Besides our division is so weak we won't be close to last.

Kylington feels like he could be a late August signing. I'm pretty indifferent on whether he signs before then, or elsewhere.

Not having OK around will further ensure the Sharks and Blackhawks are gonna have company in the basement of the NHL.
Gotta protect the pick from Montreal.
