NJD are NOT heading into next year with Jake Allen as #1....or Fitzgerald will lose his job. There are no 23-25 YO G's that move the needle AND are available.
I can see him moving #10 as long as that late 1st goes back so he can still sell the "1st rd pick" part of things.

He won’t be fired if he doesn’t get a goalie. He will be fired if he does a 10 OA straight across for Markstrom.
The sweetener is the 2 years of retention.

Any word on if Ottawa's #7 pick is available?
If they have to forfeit the next one, wouldn't it be even more in their interest to use this one?

I'd gladly add any roster player not named Zary to get that 10oa

Better to not trade him then. Just let the 5 or 6 teams that are looking for a goalie fight over Binnington and Ullmark and have the other teams fight for Jack Campbell as a consolation prize.

I think we should gun for #7 and #10 and be open and willing to use any roster pieces over 25 except for backlund and weegar to get them.

Incorrect.
They want to compete (in a tough division) for a SC next year. Missing the playoffs this year was a major black mark on his tenure.
If/when he makes a deal and it makes that team see the post-season, he stays safe IMO.

Add Buffalo at 11 and Detroit at 15 too.
Those 4 teams (Ottawa, New Jersey, Buffalo, Detroit) have all been rumored to want to make a push to try to make the playoffs next year.
With Andersson, Markstrom, Coleman, etc the Flames still have some pieces that could interest a team trying to take the next step.
Really nobody on the Flames should be safe if a top 15 pick is in the mix.

Would throw Seattle and minnesota as possible wild cards.
Detroit needs skill could see them being interested in sharangovich and kuzmenko.
Ottawa i could see having interest in backlund and coleman.ottawa also has another first. Utsh has three seconds.

In the video, LeBrun says Fitzgerald wants to add a forward with some sandpaper. I wonder if Pospisil could be included?

What does a deal look like to make Conroy give up pospisil? There's a lot of people in the organization high on the kid.
But obviously a future 1st pairing D is more valuable than a pesky, gritty energy player with some skill.

They can find physicality elsewhere. I really don’t want to move Pospisil.

Meh, if Markstrom and Pospisil get the 10th overall then the Flames should do it. Pospisil is much more likely to be Jeannot than an important piece for the Flames.
I’ll stilll be Debbie downer, I think Markstrom gets a protected 25 1st.

I don't know.. both fit the description of what Fitz wants.
In a world where jeannot gets you a draft class, anything is possible with enough desire on the buyer's end.

Personally I can't see ownership take a 50% retention on the Markstrom contract. If so I'd wager a third party getting involved to take maybe 20% of that. With so many picks this year likely being dangled, the 10th overall will certainly be in play. It's just a matter of making the dollars work I'd think. With so many months to work at it I'd wager they have a general sense of who could work with them as third party brokers to retain some money for lower picks.

I for one actually miss all that trade furor before the deadline and I’m glad it’s back.
It’s a lot more fun than thinking about the Oilers

Popisil reminds me of Ferland...very promising but seems concussion-prone and could have a short career.
