I'm pretty sure Sutter was a key factor in his desire to pursue an opportunity elsewhere. Yes, Backlund wants to win but yes Backlund also wants to stay in Calgary. He probably felt it was easier to try to join a true contender than deal with Sutter's ways, especially if others had no intention of staying.
I think this also hints that Lindholm and/or Hanifin are also intending to stay.

He doesn't make a big deal about having inside info, but consistently nails whatever he does post about. Nobody, even media were anywhere near backlund's deal, and he just nonchalantly posted "backlund 2 years, 4.5mil" yesterday.

I'm not sure how they come up with their numbers, but this seems like an excessively negative spin?
Finishing - well he's no sniper, but he doesn't seem like the type of guy tossing floaters at the goalie. I don't recall being annoyed with Backlund's lack of finish.
Penalty Differential - just drawn vs. taken I presume? I think for a player of this type that number isn't likely to be favorable, especially playing against other teams' top lines all the time.
Sub-par Special Teams - this is the weird one to me. Maybe I haven't paid enough attention to the stats over the years but I typically consider Backlund being on the ice for the PK a good thing. Maybe if this stat's swayed more towards the powerplay that doesn't help him much.
I'm not a massive Backlund fan, in fact I would have preferred he was traded instead of re-signed just from an asset management perspective. But those stats just seem weird.
