ELC cost-controlled 3rd pairing. Oilers have oodles of those to dispatch.

I really really hope this is true and I never have to hear that again. Makes me cringe just reading it.

Poile is generally pretty shrewd - let's hope that continues.
My guess is it starts with Yamamoto, 1st, Broberg.

They don't need to. They can turn it around way before this contract is up. Oilers will be some good if they retain 50% salary. Not worth an extra late first IMO. There not Arizona

Good for them for going for it. I hope they get bounced in the first round and this handcuffs them for years, but they literally have to try something during this window they have.
Can’t wait to watch them fail though

Oilers can still miss the playoff, there is no x beside their name yet.

The league seems to have settled on $6M being worth a 1st round pick in value. The Predators are clearly changing direction to some degree. Weaponizing cap-space that they don't plan on using would be the smart thing to do, it doesn't matter who they're using it for. Trading Ekholm speaks to a pretty big change in direction/desire to get younger.
I doubt Nashville is retaining, but it would make sense to me.

Ekholm is in for a culture shock, his forwards will be giving him ZERO support in greaserville.

Don't like the Oilers getting better, but I hope they give up a bunch to make this work.

Poile needs to make sure this is on par with the Jeannot value
The only way to go out is by wrecking the Oilers system
