2005-06 was the last season he coached the Flames before becoming a full time GM. That would be Playfair and Keenan running Kipper into the ground.

and Sutter went and got McBackup, who was underused as it turns out, given his success elsewhere.

You look at the East and you see Penguins and Capitals in the Wild Card spots, with several teams below them within range. It's a battle for those spots over there.

I wonder if there's a significant portion of fans that want their teams to throw in the towel on the playoff race?

As long as the Flames are in it, you don't give up on the chance to make the playoffs. I'm sure Buffalo fans would love to finally get in after over a decade. Don't take playoffs for granted.

Gilbert is quietly responsible, and tough

Stone brings brainfarts and a hard shot

I'd also prefer Gilbert

Stone's biggest issue is clearing the zone. Not a good first passer. Which is a pretty big deal.

^^ Really? I love watching Stone panic to accept the puck at the blue line and rush to get a slapper off. And once out of every two dozen or so times it works!

Until trade deadline we play 8 games.

Feb 16 VS DET
Feb 18 VS NYR
Feb 20 VS PHI
Feb 22 @ ARI
Feb 23 @ VGK
Feb 25 @ COL
Feb 28 VS BOS
Mar 02 VS TOR

If we don't win the first 4 games, our chance will be bad to make it.

Hope they win today.

And I like when he is standing right there after shot the puck and looking around like saying "what happened just now?"

If you’re going to charge $2.00 for butter on already questionably fresh popcorn, you better play a damn solid and clinical brand of hockey for each home game.

I think 5-3 is the most optimistic projection

.500 being more likely

Hope they can push some losses to OT

I think with Stone, you just get diminishing returns the more he plays. He has already played more games this season (44) than he has in any other single season over the past 5 years. Over that entire time, he played a total of 65 NHL games and 4 AHL games.

I know a few years ago, he had those blood clotting issues. From what I have been told, the medication for treating the issue can take a lot out of you. I am not sure if his condition is chronic or not, but it might explain why his play seems to diminish over time.

He's a great league min defensemen to have in your back pocket though. I think he is doing more this season than any thought he would be required to do when he was signed.

Flames crapped away 4 of a possible 8 points since the break, by giving up leads late and a no-show in Detroit.

I think 0.500 is a genorous outlook for this upcoming schedule before the deadline.

No it doesn't. Gotta go to concessions on the concourse...

And he seems to lose sight of the most dangerous person in coverage.
