I think he has stopped the back breaking goals where he whiffs at a 50' wrist shot and has started to make big timely saves.
I'm as critical of him as anyone else, but I think he's moved into "gives us a chance to win" territory with his recent play. He hasn't been prime Kipper, but he's been good enough and I think he is trending in the right direction.
I think that is a much more fair interpretation of his play as of late, which in my opinion still isn't good enough. I am not actively cheering against the guy - I just expect more - as I am sure he does of himself as well. To me, Vladar has simply earned the right to play more but it is what it is, and that's not how Sutter runs his ship.
The Montreal game accounts for that difference - where by all means he was phenomenal. Otherwise he's been average - and again has at no point provided above average goaltending with any consistency.
Lets skip his best game when evaluating how could he is!
That feels a bit like seeing what you want to see.
Since returning from his sabbatical he has given up 16 goals in six games while the expected goals total for those six games is 19.63
That's almost 4 goals saved above average.
I think he's getting the job done.
Also not just that, even with the old reliable eye test he’s been really really good if you have been watching the games. Looks poised and confident, no crazy rebounds, cutting off angles and getting across quickly. He’s been really good actually. I find it really tough to criticize him lately to be honest.

Many of the goals he has given up should be hung on the D.
Breakaways, odd man rushes, turnovers in the slot ect.
