markstrom will get the start tonight I'd bet, but I would feel better about our chances with Vladar there
I think Sutter uses the SJ wins to build up markstrom's confidence to potentially beat a worthy opponent in a meaningful game, then lets Vladar chew up the ducks tomorrow

I'm predicting a huge statement game from Markstrom tonight to let everyone know he's back in business again... at least until the next Oilers game, anyway.

when he lets everyone know he's out of the business again?
I'm already cringing at the deep knowing that we won't be dressing Vladar in that game, because "proving" and such. I think he can be trusted away from home against US teams. but on home ice, or against canadian rivals in general I wouldn't pick him over the guy at the other end of the ice

Markstrom has been good or very good for a good stretch of games in a row now, not worried in the least if he starts. More interested to see how the defense does in an important game like this, and if the offense has woken up after that last win. Should be a fun game.

My concern with this team is how they approach this game after last game. Will they have confidence and keep building and pushing for more or will they be like "We scored 7 last game, yay! we're good again!" and then not push hard enough.

He has an .875 SV% in his last four games.
In his last 10 starts he hasn't faced a playoff team, and only one of those teams had a points percentage above .500. He has just 4 wins in that stretch.
I am not seeing a goaltender who has found his game, or that should be playing as much as he is.

Sometimes save percentage is completely misleading. A good example is what you are citing. In many of those games he was the team's best player. High danger chances against and no offensive help in many of those. He's been good lately.
Anways, sounds like Vladar for the Flames, Copley for the Kings tonight.

Tell me you look at only stats and don't watch the games without actually telling me you don't watch the games....
Markstrom has been very good for several games.

Like it's been mentioned before by numerous people, you need to take save percentage with a grain of salt. He had a save percentage under .900 last game but not many would say he didn't have a good game.
Save percentage can be misleading. You can have a goalie who faced a ton of shots but the goals he lets in are bad. I would call that a bad game regardless of whether his save percentage is over .900 or not.
You can also have a goalie who didn't get a ton of shots, allowed 2 or 3 good goals, and ended up having a save percentage under .900 but made a bunch of tough saves. I would say he had a good game regardless of save percentage.

I watch every game, thanks.
Y'all have a pretty low bar set for your 6M dollar netminder if you think he has at any point this season been "very good" for any consistent period of time.

That feels a bit like seeing what you want to see.
Since returning from his sabbatical he has given up 16 goals in six games while the expected goals total for those six games is 19.63
That's almost 4 goals saved above average.
I think he's getting the job done.

Critical game for sure. Win and you are sort of in the playoffs.

The Montreal game accounts for that difference - where by all means he was phenomenal. Otherwise he's been average - and again has at no point provided above average goaltending with any consistency.

I think he has stopped the back breaking goals where he whiffs at a 50' wrist shot and has started to make big timely saves.
I'm as critical of him as anyone else, but I think he's moved into "gives us a chance to win" territory with his recent play. He hasn't been prime Kipper, but he's been good enough and I think he is trending in the right direction.
