Still shocks me whenever I look at our players salaries and Monahan at 6.375 is our highest paid player and we struggle to add players because we're so close to the cap.
Meanwhile, it seems teams like Vegas, Florida, Tampa have unlimited cap space.

We are short cap because Monahan and Lucic are 2 of our highest paid players. That $11.5 mil is why this team has no space

This is a good signing for the amount as I believe Kylington is worth a bit more, like a million over the 2 years. Isn’t the UFA at age 28, I wouldn’t expect him to sign for longer and probably why he settled for a little bit less too.
He’s a good player, good signing for the Flames.

I actually like this signing. 3x5 would be great for the team but I am guessing his long term number must have been in the 4ish+ range.

Took a long time for Kylington to figure it out at this level. Hopefully he builds on last season.

This is a great signing! Low risk, 2 years to see if he builds on last year. Would love to see him away from Tanev for a bit to get a really good read on him. In 2 years Zadorov is probably gone and if they want to keep Tanev he should be cheaper. They can decide the future of Hanafin and Kylington at that time. A lot can change in two years.

$2.5M x 2 is a good deal for Kylington. He still has some big holes in his game and there's no guarantee that he puts it together and solidifies himself as a long-term solution for the second pairing.
This isn't like the Rasmus situation where you have to lock him up long-term because he plays a steady, low-risk style that will age well if he plateaus where he is today.
We laugh at the BJs paying Gudbranson $4M x 4, but a similar contract for Kylington at this moment in time could easily end up being just as laughable if he plateaus

They still need to sign Mangiapane and Ruzicka, so there's enough money for that. Promote Pelletier, and ship two D to the AHL. A little bit left over without losing any picks for trading Lucic or Monahan.
I'm fine with it. Treliving isn't handcuffing the team to long term deals.

Kylington bet on himself. In 2 years, one will regret this deal

Also, are the Flames owners trying to sell the team? Having everyone’s contracts ending at the same time seems like an ideal time to change owners and or location. Not good.

Yeeeah… they won’t actually have cap space unless we lose a contract like Lucic or Monahan. Not sure how you can call this a garbage deal… it’s basically a show me contract.
Lol they don’t need contracts to end to sell a team… get the tinfoil hat off.

Maybe. If he needs Tanev to play like a top 4 D then won't be much to regret.

I like it. Was expecting around 2.3-2.5ish.

Yes. It’s a 2 year deal for a guy who’s had one good year (and tailed off in that year).

Price is great.
I would of gave him 3.25 for four years.
I would of wanted to buy a few ufa years. If he gets mildly better he is a 5 or 6 million dollar dman.
Just an opinion.

If Kylington thinks he's that, then why would he take that deal?
If he takes the deal signed and then cashes in as a UFA at $5M per season he makes $15M over the next 4 years. Maybe more.
If he takes your deal he makes $13M but loses that upside potential.
If I were him a 4 year deal would have had to start at $4M.

If you truly believe they are planning on selling the team, why do you care if it's garbage deal or not?

He has 2 yrs to figure that out
I don’t know who is going to regret
Kylington may be the one.
I think Treliving does this because he needs some cap space now.
We should see some more signings soon

If we're not competitive, yeah we're decently aligned to naturally have one. If we're competing then we just see a bunch of extensions.
Good place to be imo.
