I much more understand Markstrom starting tonight vs Tuesday against Seattle.

Vegas wins tonight, and the more likely they are to overtake LA to face Edmonton in the first round, in which case Calgary could face them in the second round, followed by Colorado.

Think Sutter would much prefer to see one of LA or Edmonton in the second round.

Great interview from Conroy yesterday. Talks about the current team, 2004, Coronato, Johnny:
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...l-century-man/

Loved this story in particular:
Quote:
I understand Sutter gave you guys a unique opportunity in 2004 to get autographs of anyone you wanted on the Red Wings that spring?

We won the first game of that series in overtime and it gave us some confidence.

They do have pretty much a Hall of Fame power play and in Game 2 they were rolling, and it was a beating.

We come into the locker room and Darryl is upset.

He said, "Okay, let’s get it out of the way boys. Brett Hull, Nick Lidstrom, Brendan Shanahan, Steve Yzerman…I’ll get you guys autographs now, because you guys are like, Wow, the Detroit Red Wings. They’re the greatest thing ever."

He was being sarcastic, and all of a sudden out of nowhere, Rhett Warrener says, "well if you’re getting autographs, I’ll take a Nick Lidstrom jersey."

We were all trying not to laugh, but the way he said it and the timing, was classic.

Darryl gave a few last words and left, and we all burst into laughter. Given the beating we took it really lightened the mood.

I’m ok gifting Vegas two points if it leads to the Oilers missing the playoffs.

As a goalie i can cmfortably say shots don't mean much when it comes to goalie fatigue. Zone time is a much more accurate way to measure that. Reasoning is that goalies nowadays are constantly going down and re-setting while the puck is in the defensive zone.

Yeah, I never want to see a loss, but if one does happen tonight, there could be a silver lining in the standings.

Pair of lower bowl seats to game tonight up for grabs ($500+ retail)!

All I want is a fair/decent donation to the Children's hospital, either direct or I can do it myself whichever is easier.

This is starting to get a little blown out of proportion imo. I'd like him to get some rest down the stretch too but I'll trust that the coaching staff knows a thing or two more than we do about managing his workload.

Right now the Flames have a manageable path to the 3rd round. Putting that in jeopardy by throwing tonight's game, just to create a tiny chace of Oilers missing the playoffs, is a silly idea.

I hope the Flames win tonight in regulation, further secure their division title, and drive a steak through the heart of the Golden Payrolls.

Agreed.

I think it's much sweeter to see Oilers waste 8 days.

Cheering for the Flames 100% but I get the Oiler stuff
They might get the worst playoff team for having the 5th best record in the conference
Right now if it was 1 vs. 8 it would be Colorado/LA but somehow the Oilers get that reward in this system.

I get the divisional rivalry stuff but 1 vs. 8 playoff system is better, makes the regular season games more important.

True but it sure was a great system in 2015 when the 8th seeded Flames beat the 6th seeded Canucks in the first round.

With that said I can’t think of many great playoff rivalries made out of this system? Boston beating Toronto maybe?

That franchise has only known success and as an expansion team that just isn’t right.

You can admire them for achieving what they did in year one but then they go out and show no loyalty to any of the guys that helped build the franchise up in short order and ditch them for the slam dunk free agent signings they can easily lure due to their tax benefits among other advantages.

Their fans have become entitled and they have a roster that isn’t legal when healthy.

How the hell could anyone not hate this team especially when you throw in the fact they are in our division, have beat us out on multiple trades/FA signings, and, much like Anaheim of the past, we can’t seem to beat them in their home building.

I hate the Oilers, don’t get me wrong but the hate for Vegas is pretty much equal and sometimes exceeds it because of their manipulating the system BS.
Sure, I hate the Vegas team for being cheaters and being gift wrapped all their things, but that still by far pales in comparison to the hate I have for the Oilers.

Are you saying if the Oilers and Vegas played in the conference finals, you'd be ok with the Oilers winning? I'd be the biggest Vegas homer if that (gross) situation actually happened. Luckily, it won't since either Vegas misses, or we see Vegas pummel the Oilers in the first round.

The 1 vs 8 system should've never been scrapped.

It was perfect. I like having cross divisional first/second round matchups too.
