I was responding to "almost a second" 12-15 is a good pick
Vegas isn't making the playoffs

Yep, I wasn't trying to argue, just wanted to clarify my point...pick could easily be top 15 since it's next season. Hockey is weird, couple injuries and your team is done.
Montreal was in the cup finals less than a year ago

I say this as a big fan of Gudas, but he's an elite 3rd pairing physical defender. Nothing more.

Giving away an unprotected first rounder in 2023 for Ben ####in Chiarot is the most irresponsible move I can think of. I don’t care if you’re a cup contender, that’s just nonsense.
Anything that even gives you a chance at Bedard cannot be given up lightly.

Mid to late first is most likely

Yeah, but they are far better than they have ever been... so I don't think history really matters.

More than happy to pick up a depth guy on the cheap, though

I think Cgy will pick up one of Buffalo’s depth guys on the cheap (Miller / Hagg / Pysyk)

Miller is a decent RHD with playoff experience, I’d say he’s probably the best option and would be a valuable depth guy for a team on a playoff run.

Chariot sucks so bad he can't even spell his name right.

Makes me feel good to dodge that one. I think Flames are making all the right moves, if looked back on what successful teams did last several years at deadline. Addressing need with right player not flashiest player.
I honestly think Giroux will be a mistake along with Chiarot. Feels like typical moves teams overpay for every year, have minimal impact in Chariot, and were just landing the biggest name ala Foresberg or Nash in years past.

What an awful trade for the Panthers. Am I missing something with Chiarot? Is he not a bottom pairing defensemen? I struggle to think of anyone in Calgary's top 6 that he would replace.
So happy he isn't here. What an absurd price to pay. Montreal must have really sold this guy.

Gross overpayment for sure. Maybe Zito thinks Chiarot will be a perfect fit for them but if he isn't, it's going to look really bad. He can't be just "ok".

Gudas is great at punching people's faces. He's not great at playing NHL level hockey. Gudas is like a less skilled Gudbranson/Zadorov.

How useful are those JFresh player cards? I won’t say that I understand all the information on them, but the message seemed to be Chiarot is possibly the worst defenseman in the league this season.

Gudas is very underrated and is a better player than Chiarot by pretty much any metric over their careers.
Him and Forsling have been great as a pair for the Panthers.

The problem is that with Weber out Chariot has had to lug the heavy defensive minutes against top players. He is playing above his slot. He will help a bottom pair in Florida for sure as he has Ekblad and Weegar ahead of him for that.
Those Jfresh cards give good information but are lacking some context. How would he look with 3rd pair minutes and 5 mins less per game. Probably a lot better.
That being said i do not think it was worth an Unprotected first.
