Two things happened. Hartman and he were spinning and Hartman grabbed at his arm or stick (hence the holding call). And just at the end Kylington’s heel got caught in Hartman’s skate and that’s what sent him into the air.

Glad to hear that Oliver is going to be ok...it was a nasty impact and I was worried as he was motionless for a while (10-30 seconds) it seemed like to me.
The doctors will make the call of course, but wouldn't be worst thing to have him miss the Minnesota game...
I am hoping that Valimaki will pick his game back up - many people thought Oliver wasn't going to be a Flame much longer...so Valimaki can bounce back like Kylington did too.

Mackey is a LHD and deserves a callup.
Hoping Oliver sits , heals and returns healthy as we need him and he's been progressing so much and deserves a better fate .

With Flames off today we won't know the real damage from the fall until tomorrow, but for now seems the concern is around head and neck as opposed to concussion. Although he'll have to clear protocol for that, too.

I know Ryan Pike does his homework, and if he says it I believe him, but I would have thought that a callup would be pretty harmless to the cap.
Mackey has a cap hit of $912,000 which means he costs $5,000 / day. Surely the Flames can afford having him up for a couple days.
And as Canada 02 says, if necessary, they can also send down a forward.

That's not how it works. They can't recall a player unless they have sufficient cap space to pay him for the remainder of the season – even if they only intend to use him for a few days.

Agree with all points here. Didn’t think it should have been a penalty at all, Hartman did nothing. Really weird play

Yeah, it was a typical battle. I think they called the penalty more to just cool down the emotions at that point.
I imagine Hartman felt pretty terrible though,

It was hard to tell from the video, but it does look like Hartman grabbed - briefly - onto Ollie's stick...might have been just enough to throw him off balance?
Certainly nothing deliberate there and can only hope that he's OK. (well, he is OK...but "OK".)

Both Mackey and Valimaki are playing this afternoon in Abbotsford, FWIW.

I hope they are over cautious. That looked terrible.
It’s not game seven of the Cup Finals.
Take your time to make sure he’s ok.

Is it fair to infer that neither will be playing with the Flames on Tuesday then, if neither were called? Would imagine they would want to maximize practice time with the team of the plan was to call up and play. Unless the Flames aren’t practicing today or tomorrow

Capwise, I think the team would cheap out and have player(s) called up for the shortest window possible. Saving even one day from paying out NHL salaries.

There is no point having Stone on the roster if Mackey gets called up to play.

He definately clamped down on his stick, it's a 2 min penalty. I agree he didn't intend for the aftermath to happen.

Sure there is. He is an insurance policy, if a dman falls ill or has an unexpected injury during pregame, or family emergency...
