I think Cole Jordan will be a sleeper prospect that nobody is really talking about.
His skating is on par with Hanifin already imo. I get to see a bit more of him being in Moose Jaw often. Love his attitude, decision making, and overall game.

Was coming to post about Cole Jordan and I’m so happy to see DWM’s breakdown of his game. Really excited about this pick and can’t wait for Jordan to get some luck this season and play consistent games.

Nikolaev for me. He's doing quite well for a 1st year in NA player.
I also like his toolkit is similar to Backlunds. And we need good centers.

Cameron Whynot. Really hope he turns out because he was the pick we received from the Grease in the Neal trade.

Fortunately I'm not betting on it, but if I were to bet that would actually be the safe play. Pick any random NHL draft and look at round 5 and beyond, there's way more picks that never play a game than those that even get a cup of coffee (let alone become regular players).

That's why the question is which dark horse prospect.
Seems like an odd thing to be pouring cold water over.
Yes betting that a late round prospect does not make it is the safe bet.

Did you actually read my opening post?
I mentioned beyond our top prospects. Kind of signifies our lower percentage prospects no?
Did you have Eat Bread as a middle six when we drafted him?

Ciona could be a player. Size, speed and snarl.
Cole Jordan wiith his wheels size and his IQ.
Sergeev looks like a stud. Best goalie since helleybuck in that league.
Nikolaev has upped his scoring and with his defensive game could be a player if he can keep up his offence.
Huckins has good size and a chance to stick at center. He also has decent offensive abilities. Reminds me of ruzicka a bit. He’s a bit faster.
I like kuznetsov. This kid hopefully adds some offence. Him and Poitier could be a tandem for sometime.
Poirier looks like a real boom or bust wild card.
Strongren was picked high by our staff but hasn’t been that groundbreaking as a prospect his D1 year but he could bloom late. And if he does size speed hands and a bit of snarl could be very valuable.
Emil heinneman looks like we might have a one timing trigger man on our hands. He’s trending well.
Beck looked good before his bizarre injury.
Kerins is playing amazing for a sixth rounder.
Tuulola looks like he could still figure it out maybe a bottom six guy.
Kinvall has a lot of cache because of his prowess in the shl. Hopefully injuries are a thing of the past.
Francis looks strong. And could be a pro.
Whynot just for his name alone but the fact he was our Neal compensation from the grease means he would be fun to taunt them with.
But I’m gonna say Matthew Phillips. This kid could be a point producing player in a Tyler Johnson role. He could be a really heady pp threat. Especially if Johnny leaves. Please don’t leave Johnny.

Round 7 pick: Dustin Wolf
I said it then... I still think... he'll be our best pick in a long while and certainly since Round 3 of 2011 or the first round of 2016 - I think he can even surpass that. He was picked in the seventh round, the third last pick - an amazing pick IMO.

I think he will be good too. However I mentioned taking the top tier of our prospects to see if there are any diamonds in the rough.
As the thread goes it’s impressive how many names are coming up that are not just automatic write offs.
In three years we could be talking about Poirier being top pairing material, skill set is there but so are some deficiencies for sure.

Heineman. Florida seems to have really great scouts and talent evaluation. Maybe they hit a homerun for us.

Liked your post Ziggy, but I gotta disagree with you on one thing-Ciona’s speed was looked down upon as below average before the draft. He is said to have some smarts, but I was a bit puzzled by this pick. I hope I’m wrong, and I hope he turns out.

He certainly started that way.
7th round pick that has done nothing but get noticed since.

Yeah but he was betting against all of them!
If there are 8 players and he says none of them will ever play a game and the chance of each player playing a game individually was say 12%, then it would be a lot closer to 30-40% likely that one of them plays a game.
When he said "I think every player mentioned in this thread will never play an NHL game." there had been 12 different players mentioned it's almost 70% likely that one of them play a game.
He's out on a limb!

It might also ease the Bennett chatter, which would be wonderful...and I'm a Bennett guy.

Little note on Kerins from Flames director of player development Ray Edwards:
“Skill and sense. Skill and sense. He can make a play. He’s not afraid to make any play. He can thread it. He can shoot it. That offensive skill, and the hockey IQ to read ahead of it, be ahead of it, he scans the ice very well, he knows what the next play is going to be before he gets the puck, so that allows him to play faster.
“Those traits really allows him to stand out and that’s why he’s able to produce at the level he is at. He’s just so smart. He’s ahead of everything.”

Kerins has had a great season in Junior, and we have lately had success with 6th round picks.
I’m hopeful for Heinemen just to dull the pain from the Bennett trade.
I had been high on Pettersen, but he hasn’t shown the progression, but why not? Also Whynot.
