He kind of makes the same beak of his own stats in his tweet.
But yeah, it's a bit strange. The 25% indicator is what he is using to justify saying 4th line (presumably 1st line=> 75%, 74%-51%= 2nd line,50%-26%= 3rd etc.)

Hedging their bets I guess. Based on last season, I don't think he is a $2.3 million player. But he has a lot of upside, so they are gambling that over the 3 years, it will be a bargain. Similar to the Andersson deal, but shorter term.
I think he has the ability to out perform that contract, but Sutter didn't seem very sold on him last year.

It’s the same or less dough than Lekhonen, Nikushkin, Strome, Lindblom, Foegele, Nick Ritchie, Haula, Barbashev, Dickinson, etc. All of whom score less, on a PPG basis. It’s market value.

It's higher than I expected but I suppose it's the going rate. Hopefully he has a better season as it seemed like Darryl was giving him the hard love treatment.

He's line classification seems to be based only on TOI

Spectacular contract. Especially if the Flames plan on giving him more ice time.

Okay Dillon. Now show us. Someone else posted wishes his contract would be similar to Mangiapane but he's so so so far from giving what eat bread offers he needs to earn this big time.
I like ya but Sutter isn't wrong when describing someone who needs to grow up and be a little less entitled.
I see a similar player in Dube as I saw in Bennet except for the toughness and willingness to GO with any takers.
Excited for him he just needs to listen, learn and be consistent.

Its a good deal for Dillon Dube that's for sure and good for him. Its also a good deal from the Flames perspective as they obviously see his upside. I think Dube has a bit to prove still in that he is and can be a top 6 regular player.
He played up and down 2nd an 3rd line last season so if he turns into a regular top 6 that would be great.
Similar to Juuso Valimaki, there's good potential upside here without to much concern with either of these players regressing from where they're currently at.

2.3 aav has to be at or below league average. Could be solid contract if he lives up to potential.

Feels like he should be a perfect Sutter player, the value of this contract will depend how/if he responds to coaching. Seems like the classic case of a young guy who wants to establish himself and thinks points are the best way to do that so he cheats a bit offensively, but needs to understand that if he brings his full compete in the other areas, the points will come.
I think he can and will do it, hopefully sooner than later, but he is still very young (regardless of what that prodigious beard might say) and it might take another full season of development before he's a bona fide top-6 threat.

I'd love to see TOI by period. Dube likely the only guy to get 6 minutes in the first period, 5 minutes in the second, and then 2 in the third.

That's the mean, which, of course, is skewed by huge salaries for a few star players.
I did a quick and dirty check on Capfriendly to estimate the median. Based on 32 teams with 23-man rosters, there would be 736 active NHL roster players at a given time. The 368th highest cap hit is exactly $2.5 million, so there, give or take, is the median.
Dube is being paid as a dead-average NHLer with no UFA years on the deal. If he continues to be a middle-six forward, he's earning his pay. If he breaks into the top six full time, he's a bargain.

Except 96 of those contracts are non-starters, so lop them off and where is the median?

I agree with the above. Also I think it's just a case of a young player needing to get used to Sutter hockey and add more consistency to his game. I have no doubt Dube has the drive and determination to improve, and I'm sure Sutter sees it too, hence the tougher love. I think this contract will have been a good idea in hindsight.

Hoping Dube takes a step forward. He needs to be the player with the motor that never quits. Took the foot off the pedal too much last season, Sutter isn't going to reward that.

That was more than I thought he would get so good for him.
I really hope he takes another step this season like Mangiapane did last year.
