Amonte would have been great if he didn’t hit what felt like 100 posts in his two seasons here.

Not my topic, but in my opinion the brush is a little broad for "reclamation project".
It's not just older good player.
Lanny can't possibly account, it took significant assets to acquire him. Kipper? Seriously? Kravchuk and Amonte were big UFA signings.
I think the Bertuzzi and Morrison examples were spot on ... one just bought out, the other raided as a Vancouver PTO

Lanny was 28 when he came to town.

Martin Gelinas...maybe a case for Sergei Makarov, he was 31 when he played for the Flames, lots of question marks with how the big 4 Russians would translate to the NHL, Makarov being the eldest.

I don't think Makarov was a reclamation given his pedigree on the international stage and reputation as the "Wayne Gretzky of Russia". But there were questions about how good he would be.
If anything he was thought to be a replacement for Loob who was departing. But I recall in the same newspaper celebrating the cup win, there was an article confirm Makarov was coming over.
What a time to be a Flames fan.

Yeah sometimes I think we've had to pay for a karma adjustment to how things began.
Team goes to the semis in year one
Finals in year 6
Cup in year 9
Suter, Fleury, Loob late round picks
Makarov comes over
Steal of a Lanny trade.
Seems like everything went pretty right for about 11 years.

This has to go to Huselius, right? Was on his way out of the league and then put up 77 and 66 points with the Flames. Although he was still pretty young, 25 or so when acquired?

Morrison and Bertuzzi, which is weird, considering they’re from a hated rival (and obviously the Bertuzzi scandal).
Nolan did well.
Aucoin was solid, not sure he was reclamation though.
How about…. Darryl Sutter? We’ll see about that one.

And a treat having Badger Bob as a coach. I miss pulling the goalie with seconds left in a period with the faceoff in the offensive zone, Paul Reinhart playing in front of the net on the powerplay, brining in goalies, giving them Oiler jerseys to shoot on in practice.

I would say Huselius. Really surprised by his skill and how well he produced.
Housley the second time around for sure, but the first time he was traded for Al Fricken MacInnes, so not a reclamation project IMO.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

That other thread about the statue to put in front of the new arena? Maybe it ought to be Cliff Fletcher.

Nope. It was Crap-chuk.
Werenka was actually OK just injured all the time.
