Basically, you would be exposing Backlund or Dube

This is a great pick up for the Kings. IMO this is a better move than paying an arm and a leg for Eichel type players. Keep all your stud prospects and firsts and get a lot better and have control of Arvidsson for 3 more years.

Kings probably should focus on d and goalies now. They are very close to being a contender again

Wonder if they bring back Alec Martinez? Or Bort?

Default Preds trade Arvidsson to the Kings for a 2021 2nd and 2022 3rd

This shows the value of cap space. I decent player on a great cap hit still only brings back a 2nd and 3rd pick.

Shows how tough it is to move cap without taking any back.

I think the expansion draft has more to do with it

Nashville is going to go with the 8 players + 1 goalie protection option, and Arvidsson wasn't going to be one of those players

L.A. is one of the few teams willing and able to take a player right now and be able to protect them

Development isn’t linear. I don’t think any team that lost 35 of their 56 games is close to being a contender. Their vets are still doing most of the heavy lifting too.

Tons of room for improvement for sure, but a long ways to go still. I don’t think Turcotte has come along as nicely as they would have hoped either.

You do remember how poorly he played for a year and a half....right?

Just for context...go back to post allstar game in 2019...to present day.

JG 157GP 44G 89A 133 PTS -10....488M PP

MT 154GP 49G 75A 129 PTS +3..... 464M PP

EL 156GP 54G 67A 121 PTS +6.... 461M PP

JG is not heads and shoulders the best offensive player this team has...he is great and can help the club for sure.

BUT

If he has not signed an reasonable extension by the entry draft? He has to go.

Well then you have to trade him because he can’t sign one before the entry draft.

I owe Elliotte Friedman a kudos for this.

I was critical of his podcast for not being substantive but he mentioned Arvidsson being available in his past podcast.

That ‘s the reason he was traded.

But it shows how difficult it is to move even good cap for no cap.

They just added arvidsson for picks and still have $15 mil in cap space and a full roster. They could make a run at Hamilton or another top ufa and fill their roster with the plethora of young talent they have in the system. Reminds me of when they were loaded with young prospects and weren’t a great team and added carter and Richards and won 2 cup like real fast after those deals

Brown and kopitar are free agents before they need to resign they young guys too. Kopitar will resign for cheap. They might be a contender this year if they get someone good this summer

They could still get Eichel just don’t think they should trade their top prospects to get him

If byfield and turcotte turn out close to what they supposed to be guys like doughty and kopitar are still stars

I remember him glued to Monahan who's been basically useless for a year and a half, Gaudreau is at least a point per game player when paired with healthy inspired players. this can't be said for any other current flame.

The only way they are contenders this season is if 3-4 of their young players take a massive, unexpected leap.

I like the Arvidsson pick up, he’s a decent player, but the Kings are still a team that isn’t good enough to make the playoffs. All of these picks need to actually start doing something before we start saying they are close to contending

Yeah he really soared after DS took the reigns.

Pts accrued after Sutter took over

JG 29
EL 28
MT 27

By your own claim he is the best offensive player on the club and has been for years (again not so much anymore)

Look at the numbers above...they speak for themselves.

Again, he signs/agrees to a team friendly extension in the next 3 weeks (if not done already) then great...bring him back as a complimentary player, but other wise he has to be dealt because its the best thing for the team...or do you disagree with that as well?

Depending on what else they do though and the young guys don’t have to take massive steps they just need to improve

Montreal is in the finals and price has played amazing and toffoli and Anderson were great additions but Suzuki and caufield have also added a ton to their team. Neither are up for the hart or conn smythe. They just been very good

Doughty and kopitar are still high end players. They could add a 3rd high end player this summer. Kids just need to come in a contribute

But of course any rebuilding team might not become a contender if the kids flop and your gm makes bad moves. But if any rebuilding team the kings are lined up maybe better than anyone

I guess we just see them differently. On the right track for sure, but 2-3 years away at a minimum with a lot of good fortune.

This Montreal run is lightening in a bottle type stuff. I wouldn’t be surprised if they missed playoffs next season.

Also, the Kings aren’t one star player away from being a contender. They were 25th in the league and only one point better than Detroit. No UFA is doing that. I don’t even think Eichel does that for them.

He’s still at the top of every list even though he’s playing “poorly”. Tells you how much better he is than the rest when he’s on. And when he’s playing poorly, he’s still our best forward.
