Nosirreebob. The GMs have learned. Yup. No way.
Nobody’s gift wrapping them a Hall of Fame goalie - it’s gonna be tough to replicate with Jake Allen.

Actually they made it 2 out of those 4 years, losing in 6 both times (WAS and PIT).

I'm not even talking results, although those were pretty rough. Just the decisions that were made in terms of who was playing and who was getting ice time were absurd. There are some good reads from that period about Andy Macdonald in particular.

Maybe they see Vegas as a cautionary tale of an expansion team that build for the short-term but couldn’t get over the hump

This feels like a Brad "The Process" Treliving hire.

Doesn’t Vegas have to expose one of Lehner or Fleury?

Nope. Vegas isn't in the expansion draft.

Vegas is exempt because the league planned from the start to expand to 32 teams, but Seattle wasn't ready to go at the same time as Vegas. They're treating it as one expansion in two parts. This was written into the expansion rules when Vegas received their franchise. It would be both foolish and illegal to change the rules after the fact just because George McPhee did a better job than anyone expected at putting a roster together.

If two expansion teams entered the league at the same time, they would most definitely not be claiming players from each other in the expansion draft.

Doesn’t seem fair based on their performance.

I don’t see how the two teams don’t pull off a trade for one of these two goalies (MAF likely).

I think a lot of teams are going to be interested in Marc Andre Fleury.

Edmonton chief among them.

I find it difficult to hate Vegas for two reasons:

1. They hoodwinked a bunch of teams into giving them surplus talent. Don’t hate the player, hate the other stupid players.

2. They paid a $500M expansion fee. Half a billion dollars shouldn’t buy you the Toyota Tercel of hockey teams. And it is good for the league when these new markets have early success.

You’re probably right, but nobody’s out of anything two weeks before the Finals end.

What's the average tenure of a NHL Head coach anyways? Two and a half... three years?

Hakstol will probably get at least that unless things go completely haywire. Vegas might be the comparable, but even their early success didn't save Gerald Gallant.

Seattle may allow more runway depending on how they set their timetable.
