Am I the only one that hopes Arizona gets drawn? Would be even better if they get drawn two or three times. Not sure that it would be released, but boy that would be hilarious.

Perhaps trading with Seattle so they take whoever we tell them in the expansion draft.
To Seattle 1st overall
To Calgary 4th overall + Seattle takes player Flames decide in expansion draft

No more trading down please...just no. Take the pick. I favor a centerman.

I look forward to seeing Chicago or Arizona winning and a few people melting down with "if we hadn't won against Vancouver that would've been us" arguments, even though that's not how it works.

FYI. Arizona can't win the lotto. They don't have a pick. It's only listed for continuity.

They won’t tell if Arizona got drawn. They just internally redo the draw.

That's a shame, it would at least make discussions a little more lively. They should just say they did win anyway, reinforce the punishment a little.

It probably becomes a top trade chip in discussions to trade for Eichel.

Very good point.
With the way the roster is built, I can't see management having patience to wait for the pick to become an impact player for us. Whoever is picked there will take several years (if ever) to make the kind of impact Eichel could.

People say this like it happens all the time.
Treliving has done it ONCE, and it was the first time in nearly a decade since Feaster last did it.

It's funny, but #1 is probably the only pick i'd be willing to trade down from this year. I think you might be able to get something good from 2 or 3 if they want Power really bad. I'd rather have Guenther if we're at the top of the draft. Or Clarke. But I don't think either go 1.

That makes the least sense but unfortunately is the most probable. I just have a bad feeling the Flames are going to use draft picks in any trades they make and that's so annoying. They shouldn't be trying to build on this roster, they need to build from it.
It would be so Flamish to win a top 2 pick and then trade it away. It just doesn't make sense at all. I mean if you're in the position to make a top 2 pick, you're not 1 or 2 players away from contending lol.

The only sense that the Flames would trade their picks I get is if they were trying to collect more picks for the 2022 Draft so that amateur scouting can get a decent look at a seasons work.

Not to be a pedant, but he's actually done it twice. Both last year.

Which I'm fine with. It's probably more realistic to land Eichel packaging a 1st or 2nd overall pick vs. a 13th overall pick.

Trading down is good if you get the guy you were going to take anyway

Ya I know. Treliving did it twice in the same draft. I get jacked for a Hertl or a Teravainen and get a Jankowski. Just take the damn pick. Last year remains to be seen. Just take the pick.

Draft lottery system is a proverbial road to hell paved with good intentions, as proven by the Oilers over and over again.
Each team should be able to have a 1st pick, 2nd pick and 3rd pick at least once every 32 years, determined by a simple draw with winners of each pick eliminated from the next 31 draws. Simple, efficient, fair.

Or if there are a handful of guys that you now know will be available at the new position. That's what i think happened here. Treliving had 3-4 guys targeted including Zary, and was able to get additional picks and still maintain his list.
Trading down to get the guy you want is not good if the guy you want should have been picked in the third round.

Last year was a lot different from the Jankowski fiasco. Zary was ranked at or higher than where Treliving traded from in the first place. In other words, he got the guy where he was ranked and still got two extra picks. Jankwsoki was ranked in the 70s and Feaster traded past Hertl etc in order to get him in the 20s. He could have not done the trade and gotten Janko in the next round. and even if some other GM had been foolish enough to take him (I've only heard after the fact claims of one other GM), oh well.
