I said it after the win last night, but I'll say it again.

To win tonight, we needed to be better in two areas:
Zone exits
Winning races to loose pucks.

We weren't any better (until maybe the last 5-10 minutes of the game), and it showed.
3 games in 4 nights is tough though, so I get maybe not having the legs to win every race, but it felt like we lost almost every one.

I would like to see Ritchie and Monahan and Gaudreau split up.

I'd also like to see Kylington back in the lineup. He brings an element that was sorely lacking today.

I wouldn't be opposed to Valimaki getting a night in the press box.

Nights like this do happen on 3rd in 4th nights. Hopefully iThat's all it was and not a trend.

Last 4 games vs Toronto (5v5):

CF: 132-196 (40.24%)
FF: 101-147 (40.73%)
SF: 71-97 (42.26%)
SCF: 57-98 (36.77%)
HDCF: 17-38 (30.91%)
xGF: 4.03-7.41 (35.23%)

That is a whole lot of garbage hockey

Did Dube ever come back after his lackluster effort clearing the zone?

That game was awful. Gaudreau is offensively sterile right now. Sutter needs to address a better use of the players and a better offensive pace. I like Sutter that he holds guys accountable, but he’s going to have to adjust those lines.

I hate to say this but Sutter coached teams historically don't have the strategy to come from behind. Watching us dump the puck when we have a clear path to skate it in, its going to be the death of us. Unfortunately we just don't have the talent or the heart in this core to play that Sutter style hockey. We are in for a dark few years CP so hang on.

So many loose pucks lost. So many outlet passes blocked or deflected or outright stolen. This is all hustle and execution.

And, yeah they were tired but man, they are pro athletes.

Too many shots right into Campbell’s crest.

PP is abysmal, it makes me so mad to watch it.

We need more offensive help upfront.

Ritchie is not helping that line.

So frustrating to watch this.

It’s going to be a weird run for the rest of the season. We know the team is in tough to make it, but we’ll cheer to the end while also knowing that some significant changes to the core are right around the corner.

Thought Rittich had himself a strong night.

I struggle to see how this team finds success with Gaudreau and Monahan on the roster. That “dynamic duo” is now the Duo of Disaster.

If they play well, great, maybe an elite coach is what the team needed after all.
If not, great, let's find players that care and are willing to go with Sutter's flow.

Life is good.
The owners are smart. They know this core is weak and they need to get fans back in the building next year and a plan going forward as the new arena gets built.

Hiring an experienced (iconic in Calgary) coach like Darryl is about ensuring that season ticket holders renew next season.

Yes, but on the 4th line. I had liked Sutter’s method of not benching guys for a mistake but for some reason he went away from it with Dube, who knew right away he’d F’d up (slammed his stick). Sutter’s played Kylington, Valimaki, Bennett and Lucic after some pretty bad errors that resulted in goals, so I’m not sure what the dif was. It downgraded the Lindholm line when they were trying to score.

Cripes, why does the Flames keep losing battles in their own end? It just seems like the opposition teams have like 40-45 minute powerplay almost every game!

This is a situation where the eye test and advanced stats are totally aligned. Ugly games by the flames.

Well, by that measure, they basically lack even first line forwards. If that is indeed true (and it sure looks like it is), then I'm not sure how anyone can support Treliving at this point (especially when we also seem to lack first pairing defencemen). We're seven years into his regime.

I beat this drum a lot but: I have ~thirty-three years of Flames fandom under my belt, and maybe three years out of those not characterized by disappointment and frustration. That's pretty rough. I haven't even lived in Calgary for over ten years now. Why do I keep doing this to myself?
