Probably some disgruntled nerd throwing a tantrum because he didn't like the new AC game.

My money is on Jim Sterling taking things into his own hands.

No, send the swat team to deal with a minor substance abuse issue.

You'd think they would have gone for Bethesda after Fallout 76

People are still waiting for their canvas bags, don't want to put that in jeopardy.

I guess so. It just seems so much easier to disconfirm than something like a bomb. I mean, if someone claims there's a bomb, it could be hidden anywhere, but it seems like a hostage taking would be relatively pretty easy to know wasn't happening in a place like an office.

Spitballing numbers here, but you'd still have like 30 rooms per floor to sweep and clear before being able to call it a "hoax". So 150 rooms?
Is it actually easier than a bomb? If it's an actual hostage situation and say an assailant is hiding under a desk with a hostage and is missed, boy are the police going to end up with egg on their face if they miss a hostage and he gets shot.

And on top of all of that, you need to account for every single person in the building, and every single one who is supposed to be in the building as well.

Damn, I know they've ruined every IP they've gotten but swatting them is a bit much

Swatting is a dangerous and disgusting hoax. People have been killed or injured due to it. I hope they catch these jokers, and UbiSoft sues them into permanent poverty.

Not to contradict but I played hockey with a CPS swat team member a few weeks ago and he said swatting was a bit of an issue when it was all the rage a couple years ago, but that it's actually quite difficult to get an actual call to the point of a full swat bust in, and that it isn't really a thing anymore.
Just one guy though.

Not to mention the PTSD of being involved in one.

Well, we're also more aware of it now and better versed at dealing with it. TAC is also very rare a 'first' response (at least, for CPS). If a call like that came in, your standard street units in the appropriate number would be sent to the scene first and start dealing with it while TAC came in. It's not the "big thing" here that it was in the States, but it's still a thing. It just doesn't make the news as much. It also tends to be a U.S. thing, where the response is...different.
Calgary's own brush with it (when we had over 20+ calls put in, so we got lots of practice) wasn't too long ago.

Edit: Also, you weren't contradicting my point. I said that it's easy to do. Anyone can call up and make that style of call. The trick is not getting caught. After several folks were caught and charged, it has died down.

Swatting has largely gone out of fashion, lots of people pulling these 'pranks' have ended up getting serious jail time.

They wouldn't necessarily have to search each and every room either. I would imagine this place has pretty comprehensive security and cameras and they'd likely be able to review that and determine how much they'd have to search. I can't imagine members of the public could just walk into the building and into the offices without passing some form of security.
