You also forget Rittich was quite good to start the season, and that his challenges came later in the year...but yeah, Rittich isn’t very good either. There’s a reason we’re in on all the goalies this off-season. We need an upgrade in our top spot.
Thanks for the info.

It's really too bad, Rittich was trending really well until the wheels fell off (around the stick flip time).

Either way, I'm glad the Flames stayed away. I didn't think Murray was the answer anyways.

Last three seasons at 5v5

Murray

TOI: 6294
Sv Pct: .918
GSAA: -7.05

HDSV%: .845
MDSV%: .894
LDSV%: .974

Rittich:

TOI: 4995
Sv Pct: .920
GSAA: 0.10

HDSV%: .834
MDSV%: .918
LDSV%: .962

Actually kind of close overall, some differences in their splits for save percentage but based on the last three years the performance is close.

Wasn't it rumoured that they couldn't get a 3rd for Murray when Chicago was sniffing around earlier in the week? Seems like Pittsburgh did alright.

I am happy he is off the board personally, has been very injury prone for a younger guy for awhile now.

Exactly right.

The Flames need a goalie NOW, as well as going forward. Murray isn't that guy.

Markstrom and Kuemper are the perfect candidates - fully developed, are #1 guys now, and still have a good shelf-live (like maybe 5 years)

More than I thought Pittsburgh would get for a guy fans want to run out of town.

Rittich was literally an all star last season...

Ok and After Christmas, was there a goalie worse than Rittich in the league? Apparently, maybe Murray, but besides him?

You are very correct. I mentioned it yesterday that I think Ottawa is positioning themselves very well to be a solid team in two or three years. They have a good core of young talent right now to build around, they have good cap space to make acquisitions and they are acquiring a deep pool of prospects. This could be a quick and great rebuild for them.

I had no idea there was a hockey player named Jon Gruden. I need to search hockeydb to find a William or Billy Bellichick.

Is Gruden like Jon Madden?

It's John, but yes, they are both hockey players.

I knew that...I just find it amusing that there are two hockey players sharing names with Football coaches..Raiders coaches at that.

Madden and Gruden the hockey players...may actually prove to be similar. Madden was a smaller NCAA guy who had a decent career, and some 20 goal seasons. Gruden was in College but played for London last year putting up a few points. Would be something if he ended up similar to Madden the player.
