Based on what? Certainly not his recent play.

Regardless, you claimed it's bad move because of his contract and he doesn't even have one.

Heck, even 5x5 isn't bad at all for what he can bring and given Ottawa's situation.

Good news - glad to see Murray off the board because I didn't want him.

And Ottawa is perfect because, even if he turns out to be awesome going forward, it's Ottawa. So, whatever.

Based on every stat that can be generated. I never actually looked, but Murray is to the point where he is underrated now.

Sens are building nicely if some things pan out. What a nice depth chart of prospects/young guys this is:

Tkachuk - Stützle - Batherson
Duclair - Norris - C. Brown
Greig - Tierney - White
Formenton - L. Brown - Davidsson
Balcers

Chabot - Brannstrom
Sanderson - Thomson
Zub - Bernard-Docker
J. Brown

Murray
Hogberg

Senators answer their goaltending questions. They were letting Anderson go, so they definitely needed a goalie. Murray is young, has promise, has actually had success. He has not been the most consistent goalie though, and has not trended in the right direction for the last little bit.

Big weekend for Ottawa though.

If Ottawa can get Murray to stop playing deep in his net which is a bad habit he has developed over the last few years it could work out for them. He also is made of glass. Glad he is a Sen and not a Flame.

Ottawa will make the playoffs next year. Calling it now!

They have a lot of great young talent and an amazing coach with DJ Smith.

What sample size did you pull this from?

Murray hadn’t avoided injury in any season until last season, which is troubling for a starter. And then last season he essentially loses his starting role.

That was last season.

Updated to include the last two seasons.

At best, Matt Murray = David Rittich over the last two full seasons, but last season David Rittich > Matt Murray.

I think it was a fair price to pay. Now sets a standard for Fleury. I really hope Treliving is in on him. Contract is a little high so me may come in around the same price tag.

Murray isn't a gamble the Flames can take right now IMO, especially since he will require a long term commitment more than likely.

Thanks! That actually surprises me, because Rittich was terrible last season.

Matt Murray was horrible last year, truly awful - and it comes after 17/18 was also a very bad year. There is a definite reason why Murray was moved by Pittsburgh, his game has fallen apart. A guest on the Fan 960 was talking about his game and broke it down to Murray having very poor lateral movement which is getting increasingly exposed.

You also forget Rittich was quite good to start the season, and that his challenges came later in the year...but yeah, Rittich isn’t very good either. There’s a reason we’re in on all the goalies this off-season. We need an upgrade in our top spot.

Murray’s game fell apart beginning in 17/18. He’s just not trending well. He could 100% bounce back with adjustments to his game. Time will tell. I don’t hate the acquisition cost for Ottawa, but I’d be a bit afraid of what type of contract they’ll give him.
