Scoring Winger

Puljujarvi would be an interesting target. Right shooting right winger, check. Great skating, check. Big body and can protect the puck, check.
Though he struggled with the Oilers it seems he has really found his game in Europe.
Cap hit on a bridge deal should be reasonable.
Talbot, Lucic, Neal... Might as well go full Oiler reclamation.

The problem being it would take an overpayment to get Holland to deal him to us. If Chia was still there then you could do it.

Elias Lindholm was the obvious answer to 2nd line RW had we acquired Mark Stone.
Brendan Gallagher would be awesome!
Kyle Palmieri would be great!
So glad we dodged Wayne Simmonds.

A discussion about RW and not one player mentioned is a right winger. The only right shot is a center who said he would retire if he was traded.
The only player on this list who interests me is Kreider, big, fast and physical.

Another name I wonder if there could be interest is Andrew Shaw in Chicago - he hasn't really fit back in during his return to Chicago and is down to the 4th line.
Feels like a the type of gritty forward, with a good shot that could fit in across from Tkachuk on a line. Really good underlying numbers for his career, and good at that grinding game Tkachuk is great at.
Don't really like 2 more years at $3.9M remaining after this season though, but if he plays like he did last year in Montreal that's fine.

The Wings are about as likely to part with Tyler Bertuzzi as we are with Tkachuk or Lindholm.

Rumors again this morning that Leafs shop Nylander once Hyman comes back. Wonder if the pieces of the Kadri deal could be a starting point.
Brodie - $4.65
Jankowski - $1.675
1st
($6.325 total)
for
Nylander - $6.96
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Nylander
Gaudreau - Monahan - Bennett
Mangiapane - Backlund - Frolik
Lucic - Ryan - Reider
Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kylington - Stone
Ideally you could make that Frolik for TVR trade with Carolina too, to bring in another body on defense.

No to trading a first this year, just NO. I do agree that Nylander would be great but I wouldn't give up a first for him.

It's fine to move a first in the right deal.
Moving a first for a 23 year old that is locked up to what now looks like a reasonable contract after the other crazy deals signed this offseason is fine.
Just don't move a first for any rentals, dmen, or players over the age of 27.

That forward core looks great, but the right side of that D core looks awful

I like him but it looks more and more like we need to keep Brodie since Hamonic is walking to Winnipeg in FA... unless we let them both go. Not sure I would trade a first. Id do a second or look some where else. Of course Brodie is expiring and looking for a big raise so the Leafs probably wouldnt do this now either plus they have Barrie now.

Sam Reinhart if available. He's rfa after this season and likely near 7m /yr if he gets close to 70 points again. I would offer Backlund (locked up but older, solid player) and a second rounder. Kapanen is intriguing for one of the dmen as well. I would love to get both, maybe Hamonic + jankowski for kapanen + who ever to make the salaries work.

Hence "one of". They have 3 young wingers who all need new deals. Frankly I'm not sure they don't like Mantha better.

Here's a name - Tage Thompson. Miscast in Buffalo because Eichel specialises in that role on the PP, but this 22yo can really shoot the puck from the circles and has an enticing skillset. Has some size too, which on a team featuring Derek Ryan, Dillon Dube, Andrew Mangiapane, Austin Czarnik, and Johnny Gaudreau could possibly be of some value.

This is an angle I like too - trying to find guys that maybe haven't lived up to draft position but show potential. Maybe hit on a bit of a reclamation project.
Some potential names:
2015 Draft:
- Arizona: Fischer
- Anaheim: Sprong
2016 Draft:
- New Jersey: McLeod
- Minnesota: Kunin
- Buffalo: Thompson
- Tampa Bay: Raddysh
2017 Draft:
- Florida: Tippett

Toronto needs to shed salary to bring Hyman off IR, so Nylander's value drops.
Overpaid by about 1M, so Nylander's value drops.
Never driven a line.
Brodie + Jankowski (no first)
From the trade speculation thread, Buffalo is looking for a bottom 9 forward.
Frolik (1M retained) for Tage Thompson (currently in AHL)
Moves Lindholm to centre and restructures the right side with Nylander, Tkachuk, Bennett, Thompson.
Balance to the Force.
Edit : Also mentioned in the trade and speculation thread, that Kapanen should be the target.

It may be difficult. They have Larkin on a good deal, but they still have three overpriced aging forwards, and they are severely lacking in quality D and goal (Howard is on his last legs, and I think they will need a new #1 next year and Bernier ain't much to speak of but makes $3M). The three forwards they have to sign will all want long term big money RFA deals. Plus they have a few other lower level RFAs to sign (Hirose, Perlini, etc).
Bottom line - they have cap space to acquire a decent D man, but you have to pay to get one in the fold. They also have to budget to allow an increase to the mid 20s wingers they have.
