I actually hope the Oilers pick 1st overall.
It's a well known fact that each 1st overall pick negates a cup.
5 cups - 5 1st overalls = 0 Oilers cups.
1 cup > 0 cups

Here is the full matrix of draft probabilities...
http://www.tankathon.com/nhl/pick_odds
and while Ottawa is labeled, the pick actually belongs to Colorado.

I want to see it just for the look on Bettman's face.
I thought he was going to throw a chair when the Oilers won the McDavid pick, if they were to win again I think he might shank a bitch.

It would not be funny at all if the Oilers win this lottery! I'm guessing it going to go like this. One of the bottom three will win and the Oilers and Canucks will pick where their already slotted.

I'm another one who would risk the Oilers winning just to see the world burn!
My rationale the last couple years cheering for the Oilers to win the lottery is this: Right now I assume hatred for the Oilers is mostly contained to Calgary fans. Maybe Western Canadian fans. But if the Oilers get ANOTHER 1st overall, surely the hate will spread to the entire continent. I won't be happy until some kid in Texas who can't even point out Canada on a map hates the Oilers and knows how pathetic they are. Like - epic pathetic!

I had NJ, Chicago, Ottawa with greaserville falling a spot on the tankathon site. Good.

It kinda sucks for the Sens fans. I hope their pick is not in the top 3. For me the top three were Canucks, Rangers and Devils on tankathon. Would be interesting if both the Hughes brothers play for the same team.

I want the NYR to win just for the simple fact that I want to see their fanbase lament over that win in the last game costing them the first overall. It will be like the Patrick Kane draft all over again.

I hope it is. Who cares if the fans are upset? It’s how the game is played...don’t trade away your first pick to chase dreams.

It won't matter if Colorado gets the 1st pick. They won't be in the playoffs for long. As long as the NHL doesn't lose another talented player to the place draft picks careers go to die in Edmonton.

Colorado has a solid chance of competing for the central division in the next couple of years. Adding Hughes further solidifies that. I would prefer the first three picks go out east.

The only way to prevent this is to exile the Edmonton Oilers from the NHL Entry Draft, and that isn't happening. So long as they continue to attend and continue to religiously follow the directions of the Edmonton Oilers Entry Draft Manual™ (aka The Hockey News Draft Preview) then unfortunately talented players will continue to have their careers ruined.

It will be even funnier when they interview him pre-draft and he tells them he won't play for them if they select him.

I wouldn't worry about them as super contenders but the team made the playoffs this year.
Add Hughes and add Makar and I don't see how the team is worse. Those guys are probably 2 of the top 5 prospects in the world right now. They have a ton of cap-room and only Rantenan and a goalie to sign of note. If they do get a goalie, I think they are easily favoured to repeat making the playoffs. At least soon.

I had to run the tankathon simulation 27 times before I got a scenario where all of the top 3 picks went to teams out east. Unfortunately, most of the scenarios ended up with either the Canucks or the avalanche wining one of the top 3 picks.

Why would anyone ever feel sorry for fans? Watching sports is something you do for fun, nobody is forcing anyone to watch. If someone is insane enough to follow a sports team even though they do not enjoy it, they have nobody to blame but themselves. With so many people dealing with real problems that they did not choose, it seems pretty pointless to feel any sympathy for people choosing to suffer for no reason.
