And yet you were happy with Jagr here? I'm afraid if there's a perfect example of a HOF player playing past his expiry, that was it.
I don't recall being ecstatic about the Jagr contract and I'm not sure what that has to do with Iginla retiring. Loubardias basically just said the same thing as I did on 960 so I'm not alone in not enjoying seeing guys like this hang on.

Why? what makes you think he will be qualified at all for a job with the team? Because he scored a bunch of goals and points...?
Best of luck to Iginla, definitely a great player.
I dont know, maybe because he is an unreal ambassador, role model and all around human being??
I never said anything about a job in Hockey Operations - I meant something more along the lines of community outreach etc...

Is there a difference between "retirement" and forever a flame. I thought that forever a flame replaced the jersey retirement thing and there isn't two categories of honoring a former player.
Theoretically, the Flames don't retire numbers since the Forever a Flame thing was founded. Which is why people hate it.
For me, it's a distinction without meaning. 12 is already retired. Nobody is ever going to be given that number again. Just like how nobody has worn 14 since Fleury left in 1999. The banner ceremony is about celebrating the player, and it doesn't matter what it's called.

If iggy gets his numbers in the rafters before Theo Fleury does... wonder how he'd feel.. haha.
Iginla carried himself light years beyond what Fleury ever did. Whereas Iginla had a city/team first mentality, Fleury always had the me first attitude. Number retirement is for the selfless in my opinion. While I do think Fleury might one day have his number retired, his antics and character prevent him from getting this anytime soon.
Iginla deserves the Mario treatment here.

Is there a way to find out which players were statistically better or more productive than him in the 2000 - 2010 timeline? Still cant believe he wasn't included in the NHL's top 100 list.

Such a great player, and even better ambassador. Not enough pro athletes like Iggy. It gave me great pride as a Flames fan when he was the face of the franchise...even if you hated the Flames it was impossible to hate Iggy. I.e the Linden handshake when he retired.
It's been a void ever since he left. If the organization raises his jersey this year, i'll definitely be in attendance.

Only Joe Thornton scored more points between 2000-01 and 2009-10:
They don’t make them like Iggy anymore, so insanely talented but was always a leader first. Greatest Flame of all time. Imagine if he had a true #1 center to play with in his prime.
