So Gudas with another questionable hit today. This one was kinda bad though. I know a lot of people say he's dirty and all but I'd LOVE the flames to get this guy and I've liked him since his rookie year with Tampa. The flames need a.big mean hard.hitting defender like that.

Hit was late and he seemed to intentionally elevate toward the head. Another player may get the benefit of the doubt, but Gudas has too much of a history:

Much worse than the first one IMO. Targets the head, late, unsuspecting player. Suspendable IMO.

I think these two hits show an interesting contrast for what is acceptable. The first hit, while seemingly harder, more violent, and potentially causing worse injury, is a by-product of the speed of the players and the inability to change your course after a certain point. This new one is a guy clearly intending to do nothing else but hit the guy in the face.

Looks like he raises his elbow when he's coming in for the hit. The announcers mention it might be a late hit, but I don't think that's the problem.

And that's the problem. We need to look at hits in reference to history too.

Gudas is a scummy player. The first hit, if you have a generally clean player make it, you still call it dirty but you can at least see where the player may not have had time to make a better decision. Because it's Gudas, you know he'd make the hit anyways, regardless of if he could avoid it or not. This hit is further evidence of it.

Gudas is in the same class as Torres and Cooke. He's a headhunter, and some people aren't going to care much about it until he take Gaudreau or Monahan out with a headshot.

Exciting and engaging player. Rough. Little bit dirty. Puts pucks on the net.
