Really? He doesn't have an amazing track record in trades, mostly because he doesn't make any. The Evander Kane trade is the only one that you could say he won, but other than that, he hasn't really traded anyone that would be considered noteworthy, much less a young promising top 4 defenseman who has put him in a hard bargaining position by demanding a trade.
I actually think Chevy will get fleeced on this one.

Pretty sure the Oilers have no interest in paying Trouba $6 mill+ which he is rumoured to want.
Let alone pay a steep price for his rights to then pay him $6 mill+

Keep in mind the offer sheet compensation sets a minimum trade value for Trouba. Any trade would need to be as good or better than what the Jets could get by not matching an offer sheet.
While making this public hurts the Jets position in trade talks (which it maybe didn't if all the teams already knew or suspected considering they could talk to Trouba directly as of July 1st) it won't hurt too much.

There's always a reason the Oilers don't want these top 2/4 guys when they become available, and it baffles my mind tbh. These 'reasons' are difficult to comprehend when you consider the Hall for Larsson trade. I mean, we're talking about an extra $2m in cap space here, just sign less Ferences and Nikitins and you're good. It's okay to pay top 6/top 4 their money, it really is. Just stop making tons of other stupid trades and signings.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the rumour that he was asking for 7 million a year last season. I don't even need to list the better defenders that get paid less because it's pretty much all of them.
Who will be willing to fit that in? The oil, provided nuge goes the other way; Arizona, but I think they have some really good d guys in the system; Vancouver, but they have nothing that'd interest Winnipeg.

I don't get it. Your saying he will get fleeced citing a similar situation where he did the fleecing?
Ok...

Trouba is probably worth the 'Hamilton package' but the Oilers are worried about their 1st becoming a top 5 pick. Someone else will pay eventually though.

No his point was that's the only good deal he's arguably made but outside that he doesn't have a track record of making great deals

Nurse++ for Trouba works for both teams. Jets have Buff and Myers and just Enstrom on the left side. Oilers have Sekera, Klefbom, Davidson on the left and just Larson on the right.
Perhaps Nurse+Nuge for Trouba+?

I wouldn't mind unloading a couple picks for Trouba.

Right. But is Trouba much better than Larsson and Klefbom? I think he is a similar level. You're paying Klefbom and Larson 4 million and change. Trouba wants $6 mill plus. I'm not giving up cost controlled Nurse for an expensive Trouba. It would likely be Nurse + a 1st would be the ask.

Wouldn't that make the Oilers worse? Well, I'm here for it

The overrating of Oilers by Oilers management continues. Nurse is a 4-5th guy. Low hockey IQ and will never be a top pairing guy.

As much as I'd love to see it, that's a big overpayment
Edit: just saw that you said Trouba+... depending on the + that could make sense

What? The oilers would lose neither. Nurse is exempt, and they'd go 8 skaters route.

If they'd take picks, I think the deal would be done.
I'm not super knowledgeable on Trouba though

Personally I don't think he's quite worth the Hamilton deal yet. The points don't quite equate yet, though I do appreciate Hamilton has had more opportunity to get points. I guess if that's his ask it's a risk for whoever wants him.

Personally I think Cheveldayoff will likely be contacting Garth Snow to see if Hamonic still wants to be traded to Winnipeg. I remember Hamonic rescinding his trade request but I'm guessing he wouldn't object.

He doesn't have a track record of making deals, full stop. His only player for player trade was a situation just like this and he totally rogered Buffalo. Which is why it strikes me as odd to keep saying that Chevys track record is some how bad in this. The only other time this has happened to the Jets they took a team to the woodshed.
