So you obviously think flipping the puck over the glass is dirty too? You must since it is also against the rules and is a penalty.
Once again, dirty is not the same as penalty or against the rules.

Lol, ok. Didn't realize we were talking about dirty in your own mind. Does anyone really care what people think in their heads?
We are obviously talking dirty as in against the NHL rules, not your moral compass.

No one but you right now has ever equated the NHL rules with dirty. That's not how it works now, nor is it how it has ever worked. Ever.

I think the argument is that "dirty" implies intent.
If a player targets another player's head, that is dirty. If the player targets the body but hits the head first, that's illegal, but not necessarily "dirty"

Almost a month until the regular season starts. No need to panic.

Doesn't matter. You still never want players to get head injuries.

Trying to copy and paste the rest but my stupid Apple phone won't let me. If anyone else can post the rest would be great.
It does speak on how it will be considered if the head couldn't be avoided if the player made any sudden movements before the hit but that clearly doesn't happen here. Backlund made no movements before his head was the primary point of contact.
Illegal check to the head by the rule books definition.

"Was avoidable".

I really hope there's not a lot of "this is what happens when guys play in tournaments like this".
Hockey players play hockey. The best ones want to play at an elite level and want to represent their country. Those are the guys I want on my team.

Mark Jankowski, come on down!?!
If Backlund isn't back by training camp I'm guessing Stajan slots in as 3C behind Monahan and Bennett. Not ideal but not the end of the world either.

I think Fresdie gets the 4th line C spot before Janko

Duhhh....
No one disagrees that the check was illegal. The penalty was called.
But he didn't target the head. It's quite clear if you watch it.

I don't mind this. Jankowski gets a shot in camp, but since our centre position has dramatically lowered in depth since the departure of Arnold, Colborne, Agostino, Byron days, there's not much in the system behind Freddy Hamilton

You don't mind this?
Backlund is a top 2 centre for this team, plays in all situations. It severely handicaps us if he misses any amount of time.
People are going to be disappointed if they think Jankowski can step in to fill any sort of a void.

You can see the hit and make your judgments here:
https://streamable.com/dg6z
Looks like he gets hit in the head pretty directly with the shoulder with his head up. Backlund was bracing for the hit - but he was leaning forward after passing the puck off.
