I think Sutter would be the guy for me. I think he would fit the scope of someone who likes high quality defensemen and a heavy team. Think he would love Bennett and Monahan. Would use Bouma, Ferland and Hathaway quite effectively. His brothers are still in the organization. He didn't leave on bad terms - King almost started crying when Sutter left. Conroy and Gelinas knows what he brings to the table.
And I think Sutter would see eye-to-eye with Burke, Tre and Gio. He could be here for 5+ seasons with the age of the team we have now.

I would love any one of these guys
Dineen, GreenSutter. Luke richarson .I highly doubt Sutter will be coming back but I wouldn't mind if he did .Richardson has been out there as the next great NHL coach. The sens have been screwing him around for awhile now and not surprised that he's leaving now after they went with some one else agin .I think he will be coaching in the NHL next year

I don't think Treliving would hire a boom or bust coach. He's going to do his due diligence no matter which league he is hiring out of.
It's about hiring a coach who fits the profile, and restricting to experienced head chokes is a problem because you're pulling from such a small talent pool. We already know a guy like Carlyle doesn't fit the profile. Even a guy like Dineen, you can find reports of him getting tuned out in Florida so what's to say he's not boom or bust?
If he hires Green, he's going to pick Shinkaruk's brain on him.
If he hires Leaman, likewise with Jankowski and company.

That list looks terrible so I'm going with telling Hartley they were only kidding and get him back.

With Islanders out, I wonder if Jack Capuano is fired. Hasn't been able to do much in the playoffs.

Edit: also played 22 NHL seasons and was known for hard nosed defense. Might fit the mould that the Flames are looking to create. Seems like he's been fast-tracked for a head coaching gig for a while now, but hasn't had the opportunity.
I think he's the guy we end up hiring. Just a hunch.

I wouldn't be against this, he seems to have done a decent job developing guys for the Sens.

I don't want Sutter. Retreads never work. He's been here. He was great and then not so great but let's move on to something and someone new.
To that end I would vote for Mark Messier. He's smart, he'd be a motivator, he knows how to win and he's new and fresh. And it would piss off Oiler fans. All good things in my book.

I think Sutter would bring a lot more out of our skill players and get them playing at a much higher level. We would be back to the days of feeling confident with 1 goal leads. He would could probably push Backlund up another notch or two.

How about Todd Richards?
They might interview guys that the media picks up on but I think whoever it is, is someone that no one hears about until its done.

I like when people make broad generalized statements that make 0 sense. While I'm fine with anyone who'd rather see someone other than Sutter, the retread comment has 0 validity.
Sutter coming to the Flames would be the exact same experience as if he was hired by any other team. Not 100% sure, but pretty sure Gio, Brodie and Backlund are the only players left from the Sutter era and I don't the he coached any of them (can't remember if Gio got any games under Sutter as a coach), which is what is relevant.
New Management, new players, Sutter's as much of a retread here as he would be in any of the other franchises in the league, including any expansion teams.

No, he was always great as a coach. You're blurring the lines with when he was GM.
He is one of the top coaches out there.
Also in regards to

Sutter has already gone on record as saying he thinks Monahan is one of the best young centres in the NHL. He raved about him being one of the best in the western conference a year ago.

Treliving is way too busy with the World Championship in Europe so don't expect any hiring soon. As long as he doesn't hire any of the Crawford, Carlyle, Ron Wilson, I am okay with waiting.

Exactly. One of the biggest mistake Sutter made when he was a GM for the Flames was not to hire himself as a head coach. He is still a good coach.

I think his mistake was actually building his teams as if he was still the head coach. IMO as a GM his biggest flaw was that he never seemed to be on the same page as his coach in regards to what their coaching styles needed asset wise, even with Brent. In fact the closest he got to being in sync was with Keenan.
So to your point, in that vain what really should have done is hire himself, or stop managing as if he was the coach.

I think Capuano may be the worst coach in the NHL. Do not want.

To me everything I have heard Treliving say he wants in a coach almost defines Sutter perfectly. Possession game, heavy black and blue style, has a presence.
The Flames have to be an attractive option for any coach. A few roster tweaks and a solid number 1 goalie added to this roster and they look pretty good next year.
I definitely see a young first time NHL coach being an option but if they go veteran Sutter seems like perfect fit
