Now Wideman can lay out a ref after a bad call and get time served. Right?

Bettman and the NHL need to apologize for the crappy process. Won't really help the Flames, but I would like to see the smugness removed from that face for at least a minute.

Guess everyone who argued it wasn't going to be reduced because it was taking this long were wrong.

Frank Seravalli @frank_seravalli
#NHLPA requested in hearing with arb. Oldham on Feb. 26 to allow Wideman to keep playing while appeal was being decided; #NHL declined.

Every single sports talk radio in Canada is probably begging Burke for an interview right now.

To everyone saying wideman will get 9 games worth of pay back, I was under the impression that because it was a first offense, he didn't actually lose any salary for games missed while suspended?
Anyone able to clarify?

Frank Seravalli @frank_seravalli
Both sides knew neutral arbitrator James Oldham had another case on his plate, which delayed this decision. That's why #NHLPA made request.

He absolutely lost money. The total fine was $560k, and he'll receive half of that back.

Loses salary for games played, but not for the days between the games

I said it was a bad sign. So if that makes me wrong, so be it. I also said 20 was too long so I'm right. I also said it would be zero if I was the arbitrator, so I'm wrong again.

I could be (likely am?) mistaken, but I understood roster exemptions not counting against the cap.

Ahahaha! This is exactly what I said I hoped would happen!

It goes back to my point in the previous thread!

Wideman gets his salary paid to him for games he was unfairly suspended but now I want to see what the League does to 'make the Flames whole.'

Wideman gets paid for games he didnt play.

The Fund gets paid for the games he was suspended.

But the Calgary Flames were unfairly deprived of his services while still contractually obligated to pay him. So the real losers here are the Calgary Flames and it seems the League owes them some compensation for that.

Bring it on!

Players a paid on a daily basis during the regular season.

Because Wideman isn't considered a "repeat offender" his suspension only lost him salary on game days.

If he was considered a repeat offender then he would have lost his daily salary until the suspension was served.

first the whole John Scott-All Star thing, then how they handled the wideman thing...

even if it was your first year watching hockey/following the NHL, I think you'd agree things are pretty Mickey Mouse
