So what do we get for Wideman missing 9 games he should have been eligible for?

Chris Johnston @reporterchris
Reducing Dennis Wideman's suspension by 10 games will save him a little more than $280,000 in salary.

Good. But I still think this suspension has been a blessing in disguise for the Flames.

My question is, assuming Kypreos is right, what are the Flames' options here. They have paid for 9 games of Wideman he wasn't able/allowed to play in. What sort of recourse does the team have at this juncture?

A nice long look at Nakladal and Wotherspoon.

AFAIK nothing. This is pretty much unprecedented in NHL history I believe

How many has he missed? 18?
I hope this is true, even if its just to clear his name a little bit. The 20 games suspension was asinine.

I agree that was a good side benefit. However, what if it was Gaudreau who was kept out 9 games he shouldn't have been?

Possibly being able to trade him might have been nice.
Joke of a process by a bush league. Embarrassing.

I believe they pay it no matter what, it just goes into a fund instead of to Wideman if he's suspended (or that does that just apply to fines).

I mostly interested to see what the Flames reaction is. Wideman was wrongfully sat for 9 games. Yes, he'll get his money back, but what do the Flames get?

Good for Wideman and his bank account. Bad for Flames fans who have been enjoying the look at other defensemen who could replace him.

If it is true and officially announced before tonight's game, then Wotherspoon would have to be sent down as he is on emergency recall and the Flames would have 7 d-men available for the game.
Unless another d-man develops an injury before tonight's game.

Flames should get to punch Bettman in the face once for each extra game.
