I get that. But no salary retained?

This will be a big problem for the Sens.

No - Ottawa gave their 2nd, not the other way around.

This is great for the Leafs to build a team now.

can both teams lose a trade? I know Toronto frees up some cap space so I guess that is the only positive here. Not like Michalek is any good anymore. This is a mind blowing trade

The addition of Phaneauf in itself isn't bad, but to take on his full salary as well? Nicely done Leafs.

I can't figure out which team is tanking... is it possible to have a trade that signifies both teams are tanking?

They are clearing out bad contracts, I don't think you are all oilers until your 2nd 1st round pick. Getting out from Kessel and Phaneuf was needed to move the team forward. Looks like a normal rebuild to me.

Yes, you can. It has been done.

This trade makes getting Stajan look pretty good IMO.
Let's not get too carried away. Phaneuf has played fairly well this season. Still a solid top 4 guy.

Still don't like this deal for Ottawa. Phaneufs contract still sucks, and I'm not sure which direction they're going in.

Desperation, must win now.

Ottawa must've really been hurting for a locker room DJ.

This means no Dion et al in the lineup, and maybe none of the former Sens either, unless they move their asses.

Dufus for dufus deal. Well, five dufus for four dufus. Best thing moving in that trade is the 2nd rounder.

"Fairly well"? I saw his last game - it was typical Dion. Got walked on his first shift.

Wonder how Casey Bailey feels.

Shanahan personally convinced him to sign with the Leafs. Traded less than a year later
