Why should this matter? It doesn't change the fact that including players who have no business being included in this event precludes the participation of someone who does, and carries with it significant monetary consequences. I don't care who you are: the $212,500 bonus that Gaudreau earned for his attendance at the All Star Game is a useful and welcome sum of money.

So what? This does not make it acceptable for including players who do not deserve to be included. Just because some players have made this choice in the past, are we to assume that all, or even most players will choose likewise?

So tell me who's going to miss out because Scott is playing in this? Maybe Scott has an all star bonus as well, why shouldn't he benefit?

"Deserve to be included" is a subjective term. Remember when Horcoff made it? According to thousands and maybe millions of fans, John Scott deserves it. According to you, he doesn't. So go vote for someone you think is deserving.

Girgensons is a good young player, Scott is a goon. They aren't comparable.
The NHL will just flood the other players with votes to push Scott out. Even if he won, he'd probably just decline. I can't see how he wouldn't be embarrassed by all this.

I think everyone forgets this is just a fun game. People are taking this way to seriously. I can imagine Scott being a bit embarrassed, but also honored to play in the game, no matter how he got in.

It is contracted. According to the rules agreed to by all the stakeholders in the business of the NHL, All Star bonus money is absolutely deserved by those who qualify.

If you feel that NHL players make too much money, then the simple solution is for you to spend less on their product, but that is besides the point, which is this: the players who participate in the All Star Game are receiving payment for doing their job. It is quite practical to view the All Star bonus as received compensation for providing entertainment and promotion of the game at an event that is designed to generate revenue and corporate sponsorship. This is NOT a job for John Scott and his ilk, which is why he will not be participating.

I'm not saying they wanted it. I'm saying they failed to correct a system that has allowed constant mismanagement and incompetency to be rewarded with major assets, time and time again.
Anyways, that's a bigger issue than the all star game, but I do feel the NHL is a league I can't take seriously at times. And with that being said, John Scott being at the All Star game seems fitting.

I know that this appears to be a meaningful narrative, but it is actually a fairly disingenuous portrayal of what happened last Spring. In actual fact, the Oilers were incredibly fortunate to win the draft lottery, and did so despite the changes that the NHL had implemented precisely in an effort to prevent what happened. If anything, it is tragically ironic and morbidly comical that the very rules set in place to quell the Oilers insatiable acquisition of #1 draft picks actually resulted for them in yet another #1 pick.

THat is exactly what he is saying.
It's a joke that the Oilers got another 1st OA. The NHL's rules are a joke.
There should be a rule where a team is banned from a 1st OA for a period of X years.
