It kills me that anyone would jump to the conclusion that Hamburg referred to the city in Germany and not the possibility that it is a town near Buffalo, NY. You know, since he had just said that police in New York were investigating Kane.....

I listen to that channel a lot. Only way to get my hockey fix in the car down here. Who said that? Some of those guys don't strike me as the sharpest tools..

There is a Hamburg in NY and PA, as it is NY police investigation, it is safe to assume this occurred in Hamburg, NY.

This. I agree with Enoch Root, theres so many variables in play when this kind of thing happens it really ought to be standard procedure to just keep it quiet until theres some sort of certainty because someone is going to get vilified.

What would you do, ban the public (incl media) from any courtroom where such allegations are tried before judge and jury?
It is a vexing problem for sure, especially in cases of alleged sexual assault, but witholding from the public any information about a case until a verdict is rendered would be pretty much impossible imho. And not in the public interest. Justice must be seen.
BUT: No way should word of an investigation leak, unless and until charges are laid. This one stinks. Unfair to Kane.

Thanks for clarifying nik. It seems weird to me to have the "if true" part. That's all I was saying.

Neither condemning or defending Kane here...there just is no data in these stories, except there is an "allegation"...it is premature to rush to judgment.

Patrick Kane, the star player of the Chicago Blackhawks who grew up in South Buffalo, is the target of a rape investigation by Hamburg police for an incident that occurred over the last weekend, two law enforcement sources have told The Buffalo News.
A local woman has accused Kane of a sexual assault, the sources said.
The law enforcement sources said that the woman went to a hospital where a rape kit was performed.
Kane, 26, has a home in Hamburg. He has not been charged with any crime.
On Wednesday, both Hamburg Police Chief Gregory G. Wickett and the Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III said they could neither confirm nor deny the existence of the investigation.

First, link please?
Second, I'm not sure an accusation of a 26-year-old man having sex with an underage girl makes it all that much better.

My bad.
It's now becoming clear it is a rape investigation. I pray that he did not do this.

I really don't know why I'm even getting into this, but it's a lot less scummy (but still kinda scummy) than actual rape. Especially considering underage people get into bars and lie about their age all the time. It can be really hard to tell how old someone is.

Jeez. Withholding my judgement until this is resolved. I'll echo that, if true, I hope he sees jail time, if not, I hope she does.

I fully admit I have zero details but I find it hard to believe Kane would rape a girl. He might be a bit of a dick but this seems a bit extreme. A girl who had her feelings hurt somehow in the situation or looking for a pay day seems more plausible but I guess you never know.

For me, I just have a hard time understanding why any top athlete or celebrity would NEED to rape someone. They must have women tripping over themselves to get to them. I have no doubt there is a significant amount of people who are scummy enough to try and take a chunk out of a well-known person after having consensual sex. But I also have no doubt that some of these people have enough of an ego that, because of their status, they can't handle the odd time they are rejected by someone.
However, the fact that she went to the hospital is a pretty big flag that SOMETHING happened.
