Does this signing have any sort of NHL implications? Clearly he didn't have a spot open in Calgary, and I suspect the same holds true in Anaheim. So assuming Big Ern plays in the AHL this year, I can understand why he'd prefer to live in San Diego (versus Stockton).

As already noted, Anaheim tends to waste its fourth line anyway, so even if McGrattan spends most of the year in San Diego, he certainly has a better shot of cracking the Ducks lineup than he would the Flames. The philosophies of the two teams is what matters most in that regard, imo.

Curious what he signed for.
Understandably, the close proximity of both the AHL & NHL clubs, for his young family, is invaluable to McGrattan. I wonder if we even made a pitch?
I'd liked to have kept him at a $250k/$700k deal, for the mentorship for both Stockton & our big club's players.

Mcgrattan is valuable off the ice. The game has passed him on the ice. I think the leadership group is strong enough to manage without him. Honestly, does he deserve a roster spot over any players fighting for 10-13 spot?

I can say with 100% certainty, that McGrattan has nothing to do with the account.

Thats a shame. I've really grown to despise that team.

Raymond? I would love to have McGrattan ride shot gun for Bennett this year. Raymond does nothing for this team. I admit McGrattan does nothing on the scoreboard either. Yet this guy on your wing? Who wil take a cheap shot at you?
I love my goons, McGrattan is a really good goon.

Yes, McGrattan had a hand in the development of Sean Monahan, but he was also not with the Flames for the majority of the season and Sean Monahan and the Flames seem to be doing just fine without McGrattan in the lineup. I'm not worried about protecting Sean Monahan or Bennett, the days of goons being in lineups seems to be dying so why not keep a roster space open for someone more exciting, not necessarily Raymond.

my understanding is that he was a good mentor for the kids in the minors as well.
seems like an overall good guy, and clearly a fan favorite.
Best of luck to him going forward, and maybe we'll see him back with the club in some fashion (development? assistant coach?) down the line.

I really hope he doesn't have to fight someone after they run Perry or Kesler.

I'm thinking he starts in the A and if Jackman goes down they'll bring him up.

I don't think he will play on the NHL roster for the Ducks. Their 4th line at times dominated our 2nd and 3rds. Jackman is probably their least effective forward and he's a better player than McGrattan

Raymond's production in October won us some games and pushed us into a playoff spot early while half the forwards were on the IR and before our 1st line really came together. He overall had a poor season but he can still be an interchangeable 2nd/3rd line forward.

Monahan in one of the interviews said that he suspects it's Derek Smith behind that account

Brian McGrattan sent me a text and it said "quack quack". I said oh it's because you're a duck now, it was so funny.

Said on the Fan today that it's not him, he would have given it away long ago. He also had great things to say about Flames fans, thinks we're the best fan base in Canada, and was touched by all the message on his Twitter feed. Gonna miss that guy!

It's not a player.

So a dozen othe players have been named in this thread please get back to policing this thread properly.
It's sad to see that McGrattan is going to another team but the fact that he signed with a western conference powerhouse proves the role of the goon is not gone. I'd love to see him do well there.
