You could really see it with the Monahan clips they had on Flamestv. Always joking around with him and taking him under his wing.

Wow! You got one thing right! 18 year old Shaun Monahan entered the nhl with this guy as his best buddy. Does monny score 31 goals this year if not for what McGrattan did for him?
Guy protected the kid and was like a papa for him. They are buddies for a reason.
Raymond? I would love to have McGrattan ride shot gun for Bennett this year. Raymond does nothing for this team. I admit McGrattan does nothing on the scoreboard either. Yet this guy on your wing? Who wil take a cheap shot at you?
I love my goons, McGrattan is a really good goon.

He handled his demotion and time spent in Addy with class. Always sad to see a fan favourite move on.

McGrattan's time in Calgary went so much better than I ever expected. No role for him here anymore so nothing left but to wish him the best and hope he's too slow to ever pulverize one of our guys here or in the AHL.

Really hope he goes into coaching and ends up back in the Flames organization in some way. Far more valuable for everything he did off the ice than on it, though helping initiate the collapse of the modern day Canucks will always be legendary

McGrats is a class act. Surprised LA Kings didn't trade a top prospect for him to get the team in order.

It kind of feels like an ex-girlfriend thing.
After a while you accept you and her are not dating anymore but you don't want her to date someone else... and then, when you find out she is dating someone else, you just hope it's someone from the other side of the country... not someone you can run into a couple of times a year.

Kind of sucks he went there. I was thinking that even before he signed there that next years games versus the Ducks are going to be quite intense and physical after the recent playoff series and now Bieksa is there too.
It's going to really suck if Grats is backing up Bieksa. He's going to think he's even tougher now.

Didn't he say that he wasn't going to be fighting anymore? In that case I suspect he plays in the AHL, at least to start, and we don't have to worry about him. Hope he makes it to the NHL as an actual player. The days of the goon are all but gone. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I actually like it.

McGrattan took Monahan under his wing and showed him the ropes and that would be amazing to have for Bennett this year. McGrattan also pumped up the crowd, and the rest of the team. He'd fight anyone, anywhere and almost always come out on top. Heck, just his stare down alone was enough to make guys on the other team cringe. When he was in the lineup the other team would take notice. Sure he wouldn't score much or have many amazing plays but he could cycle the puck decent and he was a nuclear deterrent for us. When he played, you knew the other team wouldn't do anything stupid. Sure, he may shorten the bench but there are enough players on the Flames that I'd double shift just to have McGrattan's presence on the bench.

Good job making this thread all about yourself, Poe. This thread had nothing to do with Mason Raymond, so please take your Bertuzzied-like obsessive idiocy elsewhere.

I didn't know that you're not allowed to talk about other players in threads. My most humble apologies. All I was trying to do was express that McGrattan has a positive value to the team and how I wish he was still on the roster over other players. Again, I apologize for mentioning anyone not in the thread title.
