Like everyone else I was hoping for some version of 4 on 4 then 3 on 3, but fewer shootouts still means this is an improvement over the current system.

What's the best 3 on 3 line in the league?

Crosby, Malkin and Letang

Duchene, Mackinnon, Barrie

Toews, Kane, Keith

Getlaf, Perry, Fowler

Kucherov, Stamkos, Hedman

Benn, Seguin, Klingberg

Okposo, Tavares, Leddy

Backstrom, Ovechkin, Carlson

It's shinny hockey so to add it to a professional league screams gimmick but I do believe it will be entertaining like the shootout and if it brings people out of their seats it's worth it.

Equally as stupid as solving games in a shoot out, but potentially more exciting and potentially very good for this version of the Flames.

I grant that it could be entertaining, but this reduces the team element. Benches will get really short for 3 on 3.
I agree, but really it's the best solution to the shootout we were going to get. I would've loved to get 10 mins of 4v4, but 3v3 is the next best thing. I'm glad that 3 minutes of 4v4 then 4 minutes of 3v3 or whatever it was didn't fly. That just seemed silly.

Best 3 on 3 line?

How about 2 d-men and 1 forward? I could see that working better.

Ex. Brodie, Gio and Johnny.

Actually let's figure out who everyone's top 3 should be. Correct me if you think I'm wrong about something.

Anaheim: Getlaf, Perry, Fowler
Arizona: Gagner, OEL, whoever they draft
Boston: Krejci, Krug, Hamilton
Buffalo: Eichel, Kane... Zadorov?
Calgary: Johnny, Monahan, Giordano
Carolina: Staal, Skinner, Faulk
Chicaco: Toews, Kane, Keith
Colorado: Duchene, Mackinnon, Barrie
Columbus: Johansen, Foligno, Johnson
Dallas: Benn, Seguin, Klingberg
Detroit: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall
Edmonton: McDavid, Hall, Schultz
Florida: Huberdeau, Bjugstad, Campbell
LA: Kopitar, Gaborik, Doughty
Minnesota: Parise, Koivu, Suter
Montreal: Pacioretti, Desharnais, Subban
Nashville: Forsberg, Neal, Weber
New Jersey: Zajac, Cammalleri, Larsson
NYI: Okposo, Tavares, Leddy
NYR: Nash, Stepan, McDonagh
Ottawa: Turris, Stone, Karlsson
Philadelphia: Giroux, Voracek, Streit
Pittsburgh: Crosby, Malkin, Letang
San Jose: Thornton, Marleau, Burns
St. Louis: Tarasenko, Schwartz, Pietrangelo
Tampa Bay: Kucherov, Stamkos, Hedman (or just an all forward line of the triplets?)
Toronto: Kessel, Bozak, Reilly (should be Kadri at C but we know better)
Vancouver: Sedin, Sedin, Edler
Washington: Backstrom, Ovechkin, Carlson
Winnipeg: Wheeler, Little, Byfuglien

I have to give it to the Pens here, although Dallas and Philly are right up there and the speed on Colorado might make them the pick.

I don't think you do 2 D unless you don't have the horses up front, like Boston doesn't. I could see Nashville doing it. Maybe the Jets and Habs.

Interested to see how they handle power plays. If they go to 4 on 3 do they blow the whistle at the end of the PP in order to get the extra player off the ice?

^No, the guy comes out of the box and it goes 4 on 4 until the next whistle, then back to 3 on 3. Same as current rules for a 2 man advantage in the 4 on 4 OT (doesn't go 4 on 2; goes 5 on 3 then 5 on 5 if killed off).

WTF is wrong with you? Grow up, FFS.

Please let me recommend an excellent article outlining why ties have value in sport (at all levels). Check it out:

Cesar R. Torres and Douglas W. McLaughlin (2003). Indigestion?: An Apology for Ties. Journal of the Philosophy of Sport, Volume 30, Issue 2, pages 144-158.

He's expressing his opinion, there's no need to berate and personally attack him because you disagree. Take your own advice.

Pretty sure he's being berated for his use of ridiculous font size, not for his opinion.

Faceoffs will be hugely important 3 on 3 I would think. Once you have the puck you potentially can control it for a long time, generating one or more extremely good scoring chances. Getting the puck back will be tough.
